Super SLOW!!!! On a Cable connection but still drags - HELP

Post by sales510 »

I was hoping someone can shed a little light and possibly help me get these 2 computers working.

I am running 2 machines, XP Home SP2, and XP Professional SP2 on a very fast Cable Internet Connection behind a Netgear router.

Right now I have the newest versions of UltraVNC loaded and it is super SLOW. I've tried everything! Using the Video drivers, not using them. Disabling Hardware acceleration and "Enable write combining", and not. Tested all levels of the program settings.

What I have found is that it seems to look much clearer when not using the video drivers with ultravnc enabled.

I've also tried ports from 800 to 5900, etc, all across the board. I've even tried wireless and wired directly to the router. Disabled and enabled Norton's firewall and windows firewalls. Nothing seems to be speeding it up.

I've used older versions in the past successfully. Even tunnelling and using SSH and encryption in the past with no delay.

Anyone have an idea of what could be the issue? I need this to work.
Much appreciation to whoever replies :)

Using the SpeakEasy.net/speedtest I can achieve
Download Speed: 9303 kbps (1162.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1612 kbps (201.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

The speeds should not be an issue since I've run it from much slower connections in the past.

Can the Netgear router be slowing it down for some reason? Any way to test speeds between the two servers? A small app perpaps?

For encoders and colors, i tried just about all settings, even bringing it way down in color.

What I found what that when I used the video hook driver, the colors looked horrible and it would only load maybe half the screen. When I turned it off, the colors looked great and I could get the mouse to move 2 inches every few seconds.

Seems like a slow holdup between the machines. Can the Norton's Security suite be doing it? The Netgear Router? Anyone know?

They are both on a fast Cable Connection.

I actually have both computers behind the same firewall for testing. I am trying to get it to work live in house, and once functions will try outside.

I've tried it on a DSL live from outside and the screen never loads up.

Anyone???

I tried to turn off both Windows Firewalls on each machine. I use Norton's so I first customized to allow the ports to work, I then disabled them as well and still the same.

The login screen comes up extremely fast and it always seems to connect quickly, the issue is that the communication between machines is extremely slow!!!

Can a graphics card or something be doing this? Or the Netgear wireless router????

Does UltraVNC use ICMP packets?

I randomly found this when doing some VPN research and figured it may be linked???

I tried a few different ports in the 800's and still nothing different.

Could my Graphics Cards have something to do with it? I doubt it though because I tried a VNC server from 2 separate machines with different setups and still the same.....hmm
