Vnc Managers/scanners

Post by Shaba1 »

I am seeking a program that will let me detect and connect to any machine running winvnc(of whatever flavor ATT,Ultra,Tight. Although I am converting all my machines over to Ultra because its the best flavor I have seen) on my network.

Ok I have tried kaboodle,VncCon,VncManager,VncNeighborhood and one other program whose name escapes me right now. The problem with all of these is that they ASSume that the vnc server is listening on port 5900, or the only allow you to designate ONE port to scan for in a range of ip addresses. I need something that will let me designate a range of IP address and a RANGE OF PORTS. MOST(not all) machine on my network has a netbios name that includes a two digit number at the end. But every machine had their Vnc server on a different port in the 5901-5999 or 5801-5899(for the webserver version)range.

Any help or suggestion would be appreciated

It's been a while since I've used VNC Manager, but I swear I seem to remember that you could specify Display#s/ports. Check the options again.

I am sure you can samdu. But what I need is and option to scan a range of ports sequentialy within and ip address range. Instead of having to manually enter the port number for each ip address or having it default to 5900 automatically.

For instance suppose all my machines that have vnc are on network 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.254. I would like to be able to put that program in the scanner then designate a range of 5901-5999 and then have the program scan ip address range and port range on each machine for listening vnc servers and report it back to me in the interface for then program. I could then just click on whichever detected machine and vncviewer would start up with that ip address and port number and prompt me for the password for that machine.

I know there was some program years ago that did just this but I cannot recall what it was called or where I got it from.
