Ive searched the forums but cant find anything to help me.

Ive set a Vnc server on my home computer and i can access it from my girlfriends, my parents and my brothers pc (outside my network, actually outside the city :) )

but i can not access it from work! it gives me a "Failed to connect to server" message.

My home computer is working on WinXP-SP2 and my work pc is on Win2k

Im using TightVnc

Any suggestions?

your office don't allow you to connect to your home network,
security policy of your office.

but there some solution for some situation only if there not real strong firewall checking every packet header tcp and drop unautorized connection.

Well im guessing that my problem is the proxy they have installed here...

ive looked and read a LOT of posts about getting through proxy with various programs like, http reverse starter... but as a noobie, i dont know what i should run on which PC and with what configuration...

Remeber im trying to connect from work to home (Work-->Home)

my basic questions are:

Which programs do i need to run and on which one on which pc?
do i need the IP of the pc at work? and do i need to enter this on my home pc?
of the default configuration, what to i have to modify, on which program and on which pc?

THANKS!!!

Well nobody is answering... i thought this one would be an easy one...

it seems that a lot of people have the same problem as me, maybe this one should be answered and made into sticky...

can someone make a small (maybe graphical) tutorial on how to connect through proxy?

WORK(With PROXY)----->HOME (FAILED TO CONNECT TO SERVER)

what to install on each computer and basic configuration... THATS IT!

remembre IM A TOTAL NOOB!!!

it shouldnt be that hard considering its only the "proxy" problem,
i can connect from anywhere else (that doesnt have proxy)
ANYWHERE--->HOME (OK)

THANKS!!!

Depending on the network, you need to know if the default IP ports of 5500, 5800 and 5900 can get thorough the proxy. It has been previously posted that several regular Internet Service Providers (ISP) now are limiting Internet traffic on IP ports above a certain number (1024???) You may need to ask your IT department about this access problem.

This blocking is supposed to curb P2P sharing, worms and spywares. However, it also blocks legit uses of the higher IP ports.

Thanks! ive already downloaded this programs... my problem is the configuration... and what to install on which one...

i know HTThost goes in the computer you want to control remotely and http port goes in the computer you want to connect from...

i dont know what preferences i must add or correct... this is my problem...

and i havent even tried HTTP starter because of the same problem... configuration...

if you could tell me something like

WHERE IT SAYS PROXY YOU MUST ENTER: bla bla bla...

Work(proxy)----->Home (all ports forwarded and i can have access to it from any other place)

THANKS!

badillo,
The only thing that I can suggust on those VNC related products is to check out those websites. They really are not supported in this forum but a lot of users them and they are great products.
