Multiple PC's on the same LAN

Post by markseiler »

Not sure if I should just start a new thread or jump in here since this is so close to my issue.

1) What 'should' the MTU settings be?

2) OK. I have multiple PC's (5) at home and would like to reach each one individually from outside. Setting the port #'s to 5901, 5902, 5903, 5904, and 5905 yields mixed results - I can ALWAYS reach 5901, but never can I reach all of them. My router is configured to route the individual port #'s to the specific PC's. Working inside the network on the LAN, also proves to be interesting.

3) Should I set my ports farther apart?

Any help would be appreciated.

The MTU setting should be the biggest number that works. Check out

for details. I couldn't reach the dslreports page they mentioned so I used ping to determine the max MTU size.

I use a VNC repeater on my remote network so my configuration is different to yours. I have had incoming connections routed to individual machines in the past though and it worked OK. Setting your ports further apart won't help. If you're using .vnc files can you post then here?

Creating a new thread for this problem might catch more eyes.
