Failed to connect to server

Post by Mike20878 »

I have been using Ultra VNC for quite a while with no problems until recently. Now I keep getting the error "failed to connect to server." The only thing I can think of is that I recently installed free ZoneAlarm. I told ZoneAlarm to allow VNC access to the internet and as a server but it still is not working. I tried shutting ZoneAlarm down and it still didn't work so I'm not sure that's the problem. I found the faq on this and tried the suggestions there.

Thanks,
Mike

Removing ZoneAlarm fixed the problem. I don't understand why simply shutting it down didn't work. I guess I need to find a better firewall that's more customizable.

The problem does not appear to be related directly to ZoneAlarm free. I am also using ZA Free and have successfully got UltraVNC 1.0.1 working.

Do you know what you did to get it to work?

Thanks.

I went into ZA Free "Program Control" and manually added "winvnc" and "vncviewer" to the list of programs. Then, I set the 'access" permissions to "Allow" and for "winvnc" I also allowed 'Server' style access. This is needed for both Internet and Local columns.

(Note: I am not at my personal home PC now, so I do not have the "correct" words used in the access columns of ZA Free.)
