2003 valid password not set

Post by Guest »

Hi guys,

Seems like a few of you have asked a very similar question though none of the replies have helped at all...

I have put Ultra VNC on a 2003 box - but simply cannot connect to it. I keep getting told that

This server does not have a valid password enabled. Until a password is set, incoming connections cannot be accepted.

I have checked it and there definately is a password. I thought it may be an issue with perhaps not a strong enough password so now its 8 chars long and is more water tight than a mermaids brassier. Still I get this error message. I then installed the server onto an XP box, exactly the same configuration and it works perfectly!! Any idea's what may be going on. Does the fact that its a 2003 server in a domain have anything to do with it?

Cheers

Guest,
Being in a domain should have nothing to do with it because I have several windows 2003 servers running ultra vnc 1.01 and they all are connecting ok.

A few ? for you.

Did this server every have any other flavor of VNC on it before ultra Vnc 1.01??

Are you using any other Remote control software like Pcanywhere etc on the pc???

I am not sure how your server is configured. Only using one network card or Using two but I have had the best luck by completely removing Ultra VNC reboot then reinstall the application making sure to check clean out old registry settings and I install mine as a service.

They only thing I can say about using a windows 2003 server is that if you have ghosting appearing on your vncviewer then install the mirror driver and turn off hardware acceleration on your video card. This may cause DVD playback and other video issues but I really dont know to many adminstrators that are using there servers as multimedia workstations as well. Actually that would be a very bad idea to use servers as workstations as well is not recommended..:)

Please let me know how you are making out...

Take Care,
Bevtech

VNC install problem

Post by bilbus »

I had the same problem

I bet you tried to install it inside a Remote desktop session right?

I have the same problem, so i use this script. You can rn it and install VNC from inside a RDP session.

Only things you need are

Psexec.exe
Export your current VNC registry entrys (you use regedit on the ORL reg keys)

Also you can change the path if you like, i plan to make a variable for that also.

Here is an example of my reg - You will need to export your own, i have removed my password.
