UltraVNC tray icon problems/interaction???

Post by yleclerc »

I am stating a new post to see if the "other" software that I am running may interfer with UtlraVNC server tray icon from displaying in my XP during boot-up (for details refer to: [topic=5004][/topic]).

Are there "known" software interaction/interferrance with "other" auto-start software? I am running several remote control applications besides UltraVNC. I never had any problems with this when I was using RealVNC or TightVNC.

Remote appliction:

pcAnywhere 11.0 host (ports: 5361-5362)
Remote Desktop (terminal servivces) (port 3389)

I saw that post but I did not try it since my problem is with the server and not the viewer. I will check on this later, when I get home to my PC.

As per the other referred post, I checked for the 'land.dll" file in/under C:\Windows. I found none but did find a "mlang.dll". I copied this file to "lang..dll" under C:\Windows\system32. Still does not fix my server service tray icon problem of not showing during the boot processes.

What next???

mlang.dll". I copied this file to "lang..dll
mlang.dll is not related to UltraVNC at all.
Only english.dll or lang.dll spoken,
is better to rename back your file lang.dll to origin name mlang.dll
french.dll, german.dll need to be renamed or/and moved to another place outside of folder %programfiles%\UltraVNC\ and outside of folder %systemroot\system32

for know detail about a file, right click over "unknown" file and you can read the description of file (if serious software) of the owner.

there is some icon at not right place ?
icon1.ico (connected viewer, active ) need to be on %programfiles%\UltraVNC or not exist
icon2.ico (waiting incoming connection, standby) need to be on %programfiles%\UltraVNC or not exist

I havent noticed any issue with the vnc server tray icon and remote desktop myself anyway..But that doesnt mean there are not any..:D

yleclerc,

Are you having this problem with only one pc?? Have you tried this on another pc to see if the problem is still there. It is very possible that something is conflicting Ultra VNC 1.0.1.

What antivirus or firewall software are you running on your server pc??

I have not noticed any problem with Windows Firewall and AVG Free or Pro 7.1.

There has been a few issues posted about zone alarm a while back and to my knowlege if you allow VNC for Nortons firewall it will work as well..:)

I have set up my system with Norton Anti-Virus 2006 and Zone Alarm free. UtlraVNC is working correctly and passes thru these correctly. It just that I can not get the tray icon to display correctly without clicking on the Service Helper. The service helper is already listed in my start-up processes.

I have set up UltraVNC 1.0.1 onto my second PC. This one uses Windows SP2 firewall and AVG 71. free. Everything works as it should.

Did you try to disable zone alarm?? and see if it works.

You can also try to uninstall zone alarm reboot then reinstall ultra Vnc 1.0.1

If it is working good on your second pc then there almost has to be a software conflict on your other pc.. I know that users posted back that certain functions of ultra VNC wouldn't work right when they updated to the newest fee version. Maybe zone alarm is causing you grief with Ultra VNC :|

Did you uninstall zone alarm and try it?? even though you have the port open there maybe a software incompatiblity. users were saying the mouse clicks where not being sent through and they had their ports open.. They could log in and authenicate as well as get video..

Whatever is different between your two pcs software is most likely the problem.

I've removed Zone Alarm and UltraVNC. I then re-installed UltraVNC 1.01 and it still will not show the icon on Windows start-up.

The only thing differemt is on my main PC, I am running Windows Xp Pro OEM (generic) with SP2. I am also running Microsoft AntiSpyware, which also complains about VNC. The second PC is running Xp Pro (Retail) with Sp2 installed also.

That really shouldnt matter. I use Microsoft Antispy with no problem here.
Man this has to be frustrating. Out of ideas for the time being..:)

Any thing further I can do/try to get my UltraVNC server to show the icon? I have already tried everything suggested but UltraVNC server is not showing the server icon eventhough the 'servicehelp' is in my start-ups.
