I am trying to connect to a Windows 98SE server from a Windows XP Pro viewer. I want to use MS-Logon I for added security (I can't use MS-Logon II because my client is a Win9x machine.)
UltraVNC is installed, and if I use only the VNC authentication it works great. However, with MS-Logon I it never manages to authenticate, it will fail every time.
Both the client and the server are on the same domain.
The account I need to connect to the client with is NOT a member of the Administrators group. I have added the "Support" group that the account is a member of, to "Group 1" of the "Configure MS Logon Groups" section of the server. I have unchecked "local" and checked "domain". Groups 2 and 3 are not going to be used, so I deleted their entries (no group name, local/domain are unchecked).
I have copied rlocal32.dll, radmin32.dll, auth.dll, authad.dll, and authlogonuser.dll to the UltraVNC folder on the Win98SE machine as was recommended in some other forum posts. No luck, still.
My goal is to connect to the machine while the other user is still logged on, for use in a helpdesk environment. I have tried to authenticate both with a different account than the one logged on (i.e.: "USER" is logged on, and I try to authenticate "HELPDESK" with the UltraVNC Viewer when connecting), as well as the same account that is logged on (i.e.: "USER" is logged on and I try to authenticate "USER" with the UltraVNC Viewer when connecting). In both cases it ends with failure.
If I run "testauth.exe" (on the Win98SE machine), I receive the following:
Enter user name : helpdesk
Enter password : password
Enter group : support
loc=1 dom=3 local+domain=3 : 2
Trying authlogonuser.dll
This only works on XP>
test is runnning as application and not a service

MS-Logon I authentication failure WinXp to Win98se
How about the 128 encryption using the MSRC4Plugin_NoReg.dsm and your own radom key.
Not sure if you have luck using windows 98 and the mslogon.
Windows 2000 and XP are NT based and really into domains totally different then windows98 does. Windows 98 is dos based and logon process is so much different.
Just wanted to give you the idea about the encryption..
