UltraVNC Viewer crashing at startup with a yellow flag

Post by bauerly »

I'm unable to get the viewer to start at all. It starts and generates an error flag window with no information at all just an ok button. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with no luck at all. Running windows xp pro behind a linksys rounter on a network. My other computers are able to start the viewer without any problems. I can access the server but the viewer just won start.

Any Ideas

Thanks
Lonnie

Lonnie,

Are you having a problem with only one pc viewer not working or all of them?
Is the viewer not working on the server pc??

Did you have a previous version of Ultra VNC installed on the machine that is giving you the problem or any other flavor of VNC?

Not exactly sure what you are asking?

I am having the same problem. On one PC (all others work fine) when I go to launch the Viewer I get a dialog as bauerly has described. The server side on the desired host is working just fine because I can get to it via the web interface from the problem PC as well as the viewer interface from the other PCs.

In my case, I'm on the same physical LAN not trying to go through any routers. Also in my case, I had RealVNC and UltraVNC installed. I think Ultra may have stopped working when I uninstalled RealVNC but not sure of the exact timing. In any event, I have uninstalled and re-installed the viewer but it still comes up with the blank dialog. The viewer has worked in the past on this machine.

Is there a log I can view for more informationon the error? Is there a registry setting that can be cleaned up or a dll that may need updating to get the Viewer to work again?

cjbart,
it is best to delete the other versions reboot then install the Ultra VNC I think the problems happen because they use the same registry keys..:D

I think I am having the same problem. I see a yellow flag and the ok button. I went through all the registry I can think of and still the same problem. Anyone have the idea how I can do a througout purge of the registry that ultravnc uses?

Thanks!

There has to be a common issue between the pcs.
The registry keys and programs files manual delete is the best way to remove it to my knowledge. You both seem to be having issues with the viewer.

 Try the standalone viewer. It can be downloaded from the
http://www.ultranvc.com

It is on the left hand site.

This only contains the exe and can be run from any location. if you are using encryption you have to add the *.dsm file and your *.key to the directory that you put the standalone viewer. I would sugguest that you create a folder on your desktop and run it from there...:D

I am only trying to help you find the cause of this yellow icon. If you have vnc completeley removed see how the stand alone works.

bevtech,

Tried the standalone viewer. Still the same thing. Before that I have try to clean the registry to my best knowledge. I search and delete keys that are related to VNC by using keywords such as ultravnc, winvnc, ORL. Are there anything other keys?

Thanks!
