SC 5 min try

Is there a way to get SC to try for a connection for a period longer then 5 minutes?

Not to my knowledge. Can I ask why you want to lengthen the time interval?? I am simply curious nothing more..

While I can't speak for anyone by myself, personally I'd like to see the ability to extend the time indefinitely. It's often difficult to schedule a time, within 5 minutes. It would be SO much easier if a customer could simply run SC when they get to it, and I'll run my client when I get to it, and all is well. Especially lately, it seems I've got a lot of customers I play phone tag with, and all I need to do is get into their computer for a few minutes. However, I can't just leave them a message to run SC, I've got to continue playing phone tag until I get them live, hope they're near their computer, and hope it's a good time for me as well. SC is supposed to make things easier, but at least once, I just went out to the customer because we couldn't schedule a time to remote connect.

Ideally, I'd like an SC that's relentless. Once the customer runs it, it should connect, try to connect, or reconnect relentlessly until either I, or the customer disconnects it. Frankly, I don't understand why there even is a 5 minute window to connect.

You could just run winvnc with the -autoreconnect option that way it will always try until you have time to deal with it.
Of course then you would have to install Utlra VNC on your clients machine

One reason SC has a time limit is that fact that it totally distroyes itself when it it closed. Mostly for security reasons and peace of mind of the clients. A lot of clients do not like the idea that you can randomly access their machines without their knowledge. I know that 90% of my clients wouldnt use SC if it didnt destroy itself when it closed.

I also see your position of playing phone tag.. What I do is have the SC.exe on my website and schedule a time when I will be in the office and they will be home. That way if I need a disk or reconnected they can do it..

I am pretty sure that the -autoreconnect option is on the Feature request for SCIII

I could understand not wanting SC to install itself as a service, and permanently forever keep trying to connect, but I think it makes perfect sense for it to reconnect until one of the two parties stops it on purpose. If they clicked SC on their end, it's only because they want me to connect to their machine, and I doubt they'll change their mind in 5 minutes However, if they do, they can simply cancel SC themselves.

Also, with the inherent security of SC trying to connect specifically to only one point, instead of receiving incoming connections, there isn't much worry about a third party.

Perhaps I've been lucky, but I have never had a single customer ask if I could reconnect without their permission. Actually, many of my customers are business customers, and most would prefer I was able to connect to their network at any time, and with some I can.

Well Business is a different story just install it on the machines and use the autoreconnect switch. That way it well work for you. I use the encryption plugin with 128bt key for security myself.


I am a tech just like yourself. I was simply curious why you wanted to increase the time. You explained and it completely understable. The developers are aware that some users would like an option to -autoreconnect
with SC.

You might be able to use an offline complier and create a sc.exe with the exe that has the -autoreconnect switch...:
They like to keep the SC exe as small as possible so that it can easily be sent via email or instant messager etc.

That choice is yours:) I never tried to create a SC with the normal winvnc .exe and it may not even be possible but if you wanted to reconnect for a long period of time I would give it a try..
