64Bit Driver???

Post by mgillespie »

Any chance of a 64bit driver for Windows XP x64? (32bit drivers are no good).

Dunno if this means a 64bit server is required... (unsure if 32bit apps can talk to 64bit devicedrivers).

Anything needing a test 64bit enviroment, I am happy to offer mine.. :-)

64bit drivers mailed;..

Possible CRASH your system....

If it crash, you need to boot in save mode and remove the vncdrv.sys,
so driver is seactiavted after reboot.

Thanks I got the files, but they are IA64 binaries, not AMD64 (x64) binaries, and are incompatible.

If you get a chance to do AMD64 versions, that would be great (AMD64 x64 is the more common 64bit platform).

Thanks

Now they realy made a hell of it...
You not only need to check the OS, but also the CPU for installing a driver.

I'm donwloading the latest ddk to see if amd64 bit support is already in it.
My previous version only had the intel 64 code, let's hope they included it
in the latest version.

I should be able to modify the INF files to install the correct drivers for the correct platforom, so having I single zip file containing 1inf, with drivers for each.

Could you email me or post the 64-bit drivers as well? (I realize they're beta at best.)

I would also be VERY interested in a 64-bit (x64) driver. We use UltraVNC alot for our maya rendering farm and are moving to x64 on the windows platform. Remote Desktop is out of the question since maya won't render when logged in as a remote desktop user.

64bit drivers are on
http://sc.uvnc.com/V2

NOT TESTED

I only recompiled the sys/dll for 64bit
Possible INF file need also changes

Don't have a 64bit for testing....

NOT TESTED..........could BSOD

If crash
remove
system32/drivers/vncdrv.sys <---- possible system64 ???

AGAIN NOT TESTED, OWN RISK

1) Does it install ?
2) Possible we have also a problem between shared memory (32bit app
and 64bit driver)
Even if it install correct, it still can BSOD if driver get activated !!!!!!!!!!

It could be an installer issue....
You can also add the device using new hardware, select video
and pinpoint it to the inf file
Gbie

The installation ends with this error:
The specified location does not contain a compatible driver for your device. If the location contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based system

BTW, just the Itanium has a different compiler. The new P4s with 64 bit extensions run the same code as the Athlon64..

Itanium doesn't even work on x64, it needs an IA64(which Itanium uses) build.

More info on building the inf file here :
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/in ... _reqs.mspx

I got the driver installed by overriding x64 driver check, but it still looks like this :

May I ask whether you run the 64bit driver with the 32bit version of UVNC or whether you compiled it for 64bit?!

I run it with the 32-bit version (the only version they distribute).
I don't have a copy of MSVC and I don't suppose it compiles under mingw...

Thanks for the info.

I was just taught that 64bit drivers have certain issues with 32bit apps (or may have them). Actually it's all about the fact that the driver needs to be aware of 32bit apps calling into it.

Maybe different for a mini-driver such as this mirror driver.

There can be an issue with a 64bit driver that share memory
with a 32bit application.

Special if you pass pointers...

Still need to buy some 64bit PC for testing, without testing it is just SPAM.
Amd or Intel ... anybody know what is better ?
Xeon ?

Just don't buy Itanium. It is almost dead (too expensive and so on).

It is indeed a very good architecture with promising features but AMD was simply better for the mass-market.

And EMT64 is not real 64bit (only memory addressing). Better buy an AMD with 64bit and best dualcore or something, so you can also test multiprocessor issues.

Currently the Opteron 1xx series is actually cheaper than the athlon64 series. Either way you'll end up with a good machine.

I guess the price heavily depends on where you are on earth *g*

However, an Opteron system with e.g. 2 dualcore Opterons (hope the series you mentioned has this ability already) would be ideal since it behaves like 4 processors. A more than moderate assumption if you consider that your "customer" always has more memory and more and better CPUs ;) (The so-called MC-rule :-D)

No, the 1xx series is for single cpu only. It's socket 939 based (same as athlon 64) and not socket 940 cpu which the 2xx series is.

Anyway I seriously need a x64 driver for some machines we are about to get which is actually 2x dual-core systems :)

A dual core opteron is a bit overkill for 3the test PC.
I just need it for testing 64bit....and not as desktop PC

I found following options what are acceptable for my budjet

Xeon server --> 450EU
(PowerEdgeTM SC1420 dell)
Opteron --> 750EU (sun microsystems)
http://www.sun.com/desktop/workstation/ultra20/

Prises drop very fast, and at the time the OS will be able to use
the full power of the CPU, this CPU will possible aready be outdated.

Anything new on this topic?

64-bit driver on the way?

Post by Gues »

Hi.
I have been waiting for a driver for Windows XP x64. There was a tread a while ago, but nothing new has been posted for around a month. So I am just wondering if we can expect something soon. Am using Radmin now, but have been casting long eyes on UltraVNC and would love try it out.

Hoping for the best!

First test where successfull (driver level)
Tests where done via a 64bit compiled testapp.
(only for amd64 and new pentium D em64t)

Still a lot of testing to do, but now i have a x64 (Pentium D) PC,
it goes a lot faster. ( did more in a week then in 2 months)

Time shedule: I hope to have it running end jan.

**x64 registry value's changed for video
**x64 driver + win32 app ?
If it realy require a x64 app, time could be longer as a x64 port of vnc
is not done in a few hours.
