I have read and read. I started with no knowledge this morning and have gotten to the point where I can do everything (pretty much) that I want except one thing....
I have a web server that is managed remotely. I have full admin access to it. It is Windows 2003. I have an available static IP that I can dedicate to doing "stuff".
At the office, I don't have a static ip.
What I want to do is to put something on my server....I really don't care what at this point.....that will allow my clients to always refer to the static ip or a url related to that ip.
What can I use to kind of "forward" the traffic going to that IP so that it gets re-routed to my office ip? I can write a program that will put give the web server my office ip at regular intervals so none of that is a problem.
I'm pulling my hair out here....so any suggestions would be helpful. I thought that the repeater or reflector would do it...but I can't find enough documentation to figure out what I actually need.
Thanks in advance.
Kasey

setting up repeater or reflector on web server
Dynamic IP address
You need to update DNS dynamically. If you don't have that available check out http://www.dyndns.org/ where you register for free and can have your PC or linksys/netgear/whatever update the DNS entry.
Also try http://www.no-ip.com
Thank you both for the replies.
I still think that their has got to be a way though.
I came up with the another idea last night. What I'm thinking is that I could write a script that insalls with UltraVNC. Have that script go download a value (my current office ip) and use that value for the connect property and start the remote connection that way.
This could be done with a helper application and then have the client connect using my helper.
What do you guys think of that?

use no-ip.com
I have used no-ip for my web server for over a year with no problems. I also use another program called ip monster it monitors your ip address and if it changes it sends you an e-mail. I recommed using a internet e-mail address that is accessible from anywhere like yahoo or hotmail. Good luck.
Re: use no-ip.com
Thank you for the suggestion.
I have DNS control on my server so I was able to map a url to my office ip.
My ip changes very infrequently so it has not be a problem. I am also working on a program that will update the DNS value on the server automatically just in case.
