ok, checked is OK
but MD5 is not sure, collision is possible, better authenticity now with SH3

Thanks for the info. I think both MD5 and SHA-1 are considered "broken" at this point. I noticed last night that RedHat has moved to SHA-2 using something called sha2sum but I can't seem to find it yet.

If you need a hash summer that does directories and subdirectories, here's two command-line tools that can do the job:

Also freeware. I can't find one with a GUI, like md5summer - my personal favorite, before MD5 was broken.
