Video Driver for RC18

Hi, I'm a little bit confused by the video driver, hopefully someone can help me out figure out the myth.

Just installed the RC18, the speed ROCKS over the lan. Anyway, before this new version. I have RC16 installed on the remote machine with the same version video driver. here are what I did to install the new driver:

1. uninstall the old driver from Add/Remove program (btw, I use XP Pro SR1)
2. reboot the computer
3. install the new driver (setupdrv install) and got confirmation it was installed.
4. reboot the computer

After the computer is up and running, I opened the Add/Remove program but could not see the entry for the new video driver. My question is was the driver actually installed despite it is not showing up in the list? If not, how do I install the driver then?

Just as you did. If you've really installed it, it has to be installed.

You could use this program to detect installed video driver.

Thanks for the file. It says the driver is installed. I feel more comfortable now.

Driver is found in device manager
settings->controle panel->system->hardware->device manager

check display adapters, you should see the vnc mirror driver

In the device manager, the driver is displayed as "Winvnc Video hook driver", date "9/25/2001" and version is "1.1.0.0". Is this suppose to be for RC18?

I'm having problems installing it. I'm assuming you install it using ms-dos or something but i dont know how. All it says is setupdrv.exe install/uninstall when i doubleclick the file. Any ideas

I did exactly that and get the messagebox "Driver installation failed". No work-around I have tried solves it. The Mirror driver is not present under device manager \ display adapters.

I am running windows XP pro, SP1 with an Asus radeon A9200 display adapter. The Ultra vnc I am trying to install is rc18. The server works perfectly but the mirror driver just refuses to install.

Hi guys ... I'm having the same problem with the Mirror Driver failing....no matter how I key it in, I get "Driver Installation Failed".

I am running from an Administrator level account - and I've tried it from the RUN command and "dos" prompt - all same thing.

The driver does not show as running in the Device Manager, either.

And I've done it with and without the VNC server running.

I have the same problem installing the hook driver. It says "Driver Installation Failed".

I tried it on both system, same result. They have nvidia video driver and SMS Mirror driver (which is for IT) installed. It was working with RC11 hook driver.

I tried to install it using dos prompt. (setupdrv install)

you may have done like me, unzip the driver zip file without creating directories.

You must unzip your file with directory path.

Your unzip should be like this:

setupdrv.exe
driverupgrade\vnccom.sys
driverupgrade\vncdrv.dll
...

1st, i'm pissed off that i had to REGISTER just to do a damn search for this problem, i could have solved it and not had to waste my time and yours (by reading this post)

2nd, WHY oh WHY was/is there no damn README.txt to SAY you must unzip your file with directory path ????? (good catch sheppard)

3rd WHY must i reboot my server to enable this driver? i don't like rebooting, this is why i run NT so i don't have to every stinkin' day
there's gotta be a way to enable it without rebooting...

Hi everybody, I am trying to install RC18 and its driver.

These are the steps I follow:
- uninstall old driver from device manager and reboot
- delete vnc*.* from \windows\system32 and \windows\system32\drivers
- do a "setupdrv install" and reboot
- device manager now reports I have driver 1.1.0.0 installed
- lauch winvnc with "video hook driver" enabled

When I try to connect it says that the "current driver is too old, upgrade or disable it"!
What am I missing??

I have been spending the last week tweaking ultravnc and fastpush... my only issue is the video driver... I can copy the two files over to the 'server' computer in the script, but then what? Any ideas how I can install the driver remotely using shell commands?

We're seeing install failures. Identical systems - one with NT2000 Pro works, the other with XP SP1 fails. The install window opens and then disappears (almost miss it, so fast). The install process is running but I assume it's waiting for a response.

I have 2 other systems that are nearly identical w/XP Pro SP1. The one with AGP video has the above described problem. The one with PCI video worked fine.

All are fresh installs of RC18 which, by the way, rocks!

I was aware of these two command line options but they are not silent at all. A box pops up saying that the driver will be activated on reboot.
Could it be possible to add a silent option to both install and removal ?

Did you find a solution for "XP home" ?

The AutoIt solution wasn't good enough indeed...

Can you also check if there are problems with working directory when launching "setupdrv.exe -install" ? It looks like the install fails if I don't launch a cmd and cd to the directory holding the setupdrv.exe.
