Viewer won't start!
Hi,
I just upgraded to the latest release. For some reason, when I start the viewer, it pops a dialog box with an exclamation mark but no title and not other text. And the viewer did not start at all. When I tried the same install on a different computer which used to have Ultravnc, it was able to run the viewer just fine. Any idea how I can make the ultravnc running on my machine again. I have already try a clean install couple of times.
Thanks.
Nikki

Same Problem here...
OK, so unstalling and re-installaging does not fix it. Can't find anything in the forums about this (at least not yet.

Thanks for replying.
I am using the latest release Release 1.0 on Windows XP SP2.
The viewer fail to start when I run it. It give me a dialog titiled "Info". The dialog has an exclamation mark but no text and an "OK" button.
There is no lang.dll in the directory. I only install the viewer and nothing else. I tried to install the full package but I still can't start the viewer at all.
Thansk.

OK - still cannot figure this issue out.
OK, still not luck with this issue.
This works on every other computer in our office. Is there a comprehensive list of files, settings & registry keys so I can wipe out EVERY piece of the application and reinstall? (uninstall and reinstall does not correct)
I deleted the options.vnc file from temp and did not correct the issue.
Also, are screen capture posts supported in the forum?
Thanks
Terry

Hi there,
Can some developer please give me some ideas to fix this problem? Is it possible to send me a debug version of the viewer exe? I can try to see where it stops. I have tried to download the source but I haven't gotten it to compile yet. I am missing some X11 codes that it requires.
Thx
Nikki

I was able to fix this

I was able to fix this by downloading english.zip, extracting english.dll and renaming it to lang.dll.
Put lang.dll in you c:\program files\ultravnc folder.
I had the same symptom as you, and this fixed the problem, but don't know if it will fix it for you.
Thanks

Viewer won't start?? Still no result
Still stuck with the fact the viewer will not start on my windows xp machine. Is it worth installing the server and viewer in dfferent folders? Is it only XP machines that are affected as my works Windows 2000 computer has no problems at all?
Will keep trying until I get a result as once it works the program is spot on.

Re: Viewer won't start?? Still no result
I have the VNC viewer works on one Windows XP Pro machine but not the other one. I haven't done extensive testing yet but I recall that on my Windows 2000 server machines, the vnc server causes excessive CPU usage (so I am still using RC18 on the W2K server).Paul Leeds wrote:Still stuck with the fact the viewer will not start on my windows xp machine. I tried installing both the server and viewer but this did not fix the problem.
Please post any sucess and observation.

1st, close all software and service not necessary for test
if noting better,
try, if possible, with a fresh windows XP installed ?
is work, it mean, you have some application or service disturb viewer.

I tried your suggestion and still the same result. I also tried running the vncviewer in "Safe Mode" and got the same failure.
If the old VNC Viewer worked before, what changes in the new VNC Viewer could have caused this. It would be nice if that dialog popped up with some useful message instead lf just an "OK" button. Is there a version of vnc viewer actually write to a log file so that we can do some debugging here?

vncviewer 1.0 not running at all!
I upgraded from RC18 to release 1 and the vncviewer will not start anymore. When I try to start it, it will give an dialog with "Info" on the title bar but no other text in the window. The only button there is "OK". When the "OK" is clicked nothing else happen. The normal connection window (the one where you enter the ip/name of the computer you want to connect to) never come up.
I have tried reinstall, totally clean the VNC related registry and directories but to no avail. The only thing that worked was if I reinstall the RC18 version.

Where is this lang.dll located? I can't find it in the installation directory. Some told me that for I don't need it for the english version. Some told me that I should find english.dll and rename it to lang.dll (but I have not idea where to download english.dll)Rudi De Vos wrote:old lang.dll ?

Solution found
Hello, I found the solution.
For some reason, it is missing the lang.dll. I can't find the dll in sourceforge.net but I found it here: http://ftp.erm.tu-cottbus.de/ultravnc/T ... NS/VIEWER/
Simply copy the dll (eg. english.dll) you want and rename it to lang.dll and then move that to your ultravnc directory.
After this, the viewer will run just fine.
What I don't understand is how come one of my machine with lang.dll will still able to run the ultra vncviewer.
Anyway, this solution works for me. I hope it will do you well too.

Indeed.
The latest viewers are native english. (the english lang dll is compiled in the exe)
But on startup, the viewer check if there exist a "lang.dll" in the current
folder. If he find this file, the resources from this file are used instead of the buildin.
The problem is that we still need to update the different language dll to the rel1.00. We where waiting with it, because each time an option was added we need to change it in all dlls.
