Option in viewer to limit reverse connections

Post by Cybermutant »

I have a computer at work behind NAT, and thus unreachable from the outside. To overcome this, I have set up a Scheduled Task for VNC Server that tries to connect to my home IP address every 5 minutes. Whenever I need to access the PC at work from home, I just launch the VNC Viewer in listening mode, wait at most 5 minutes, and the work PC initiates a connection.

Although this scheme works, every 5 minutes the viewer receives another reverse connection request and opens up another VNC window. While using UltraVNC (it was RC18 if I remember correctly), closing the newly opened window used to close the other (the window I was working in) as well as exit the viewer itself.

Then I tried TightVNC, and while it too opened new windows every 5 minutes, it at least allowed me to close them without quitting the viewer as a whole. That's why I'm using TightVNC at the moment.

Seeing that you are progressing quite well with UltraVNC and adding many new features, I'd really like to switch back to Ultra. Is it possible in recent versions to limit the number of server-initiated connections in the viewer, or to temporarily turn off listening mode after a connection has been established?

Redge, thanks for sparing the time to dig up a forum post this old and giving me the news, I really appreciate it. It's great to learn that this feature is finally implemented. And just on time, too; I had started thinking of resubmitting a request for this.

Hopefully, this functionality will be available in v1.0.1, right?

Thanks again...
