After logged off as an user, I can't reconnect with UltraVNC
After logged off as an user, I can't reconnect with UltraVNC
Hi guys,
I've got a problem here with all versions of UltraVNC.
This problem doesn't exist in RealVNC, so maybe you know what the problem is.
I'm using Windows 2000 and Windows XP Pro and Home.
I've installed UltraVNC as a system service and configured the settings as I wanted.
Ports, password, etc.
The problem is when I log off as an user, the service quits too, so I can't reconnect anymore.!
Only when XP or 2000 is capable of using CTRL-ALT-DEL, the service's still running.
I want the possible option to log off as an user without shutting down the service!. Or to lock the workstation.
RealVNC is capable of this. UltraVNC not.
Am I doing something wrong?

Also remember XP home with the FUS there is a problem by default with connecting to this PC. Search out FUS or XP Home and I bet you will find the reg setting so you can use VNC with it. At least I think there is a fix..
XP Pro and W2K Pro set up as a service should be fine with the default install for the service and should work just fine.

Let me ask you a question: what version of UVNC are you using ?
If you are using an old version (i.e. RC18), [topic=58][/topic] may apply ...

Can't connect if computer "locked"
I am having the same issues. I have Server vRC20.5 running on Windows2000 machine. When I turn on the screen saver which requires login to wakeup, I can not connect from a remote computer when the screen saver is active. This means I must leave my host computer "unlocked" at all times.
I saw the post about "Local System Account" and "Allow Server..." but I don't even see those options (I looked at the Admin Properties of UltraVNC Server as well as the Properties screen). Where are these settings and will this resolve my issue?
I have both "Requires MS Login" and "New MS Login" checked. Is that ok?[/quote]

Oh yes, I have this problem too. Forgot to mention it.mmontoya wrote:I am having the same issues. I have Server vRC20.5 running on Windows2000 machine. While installing, I've checked the option to install as a SYSTEM service.!elake wrote:This may seem like a dumb question but are you running the service as a system account or a specific user. Check the properties of the VNC service and make sure that it has Local System Account checked and Allow service to interact with desktop checked also.
The program should have configured itself to start as a system service, not as a local user service.
It's the job of the program to install perfectly.
It hasn't told me to use it as Local system account or check the Allow service to interact with Desktop.
I am not on my work now. But I've seen it in a flash what that option was.
Both were checked with an user with administrator privileges.
It should be working under any users with admin privileges.
I've installed version RC18. When I saw the newest version RC20, I've downloaded this and installed this with the Upgrade option. But the problem still exists.
It's just the hardest part not to remove this program and install RC20 as a clean new program, because I can't do that.
Let's make this clear for you:
On several organizations I'm using RealVNC. A few organizations uses RC18.
Those with RC18 got the problems with reconnecting when logged off as an user (or with screensaver). Or when you use RC18 viewer to a RealVNC machine.
That's why I can't remove the RC18 program to install RC20 on the organizations.
And I want to replace RealVNC with UltraVNC RC20 without losing the connection. (Maybe an option: When you have installed RealVNC on a machine and UltraVNC sits next to it. If you use UltraVNC viewer, it connects to UltraVNC server, not RealVNC service.? You got the point?
UltraVNC viewer with UltraVNC service and RealVNC viewer with RealVNC service.)
Also if I go to the settings of UltraVNC in the system tray, it throws me out of the screen and I can't login anymore.
I want to prevent this lockout.
Try new installer UltraVNC V100And I want to replace RealVNC with UltraVNC RC20 without losing the connection.

if you take care important options and password during setup process, you don't lose the connection
well,
I was just upgraded upgrade RealVNC 4.1.6 to UltraVNC V100 successfully :-)by remote installation
(setup is local on host but contolled remotely with UltraVNC viewer V100
later,
you can remotely go to host and select Add/Remove Program for uninstall RealVNC 3.3.7 or 4.1.x,
that's all !
Very good work from Marscha and Rudi and a fews others Devs

Thanks. I checked the properties and there were already as you mentioned. I don't understand what you are saying about the MS Login I/II. Should I uncheck the second one and keep the first one checked? I just have regular workstations, no Server 2000 or anything. Is everyone able to access a locked computer remotely? What am I doing wrong.

No ! Because you don't connect to Domain, you are only using workgroup"New MS Login" checked. Is that ok?
[x]Require MS-Logon (User/Pass./Domain) <-- you need only this one
[ ] New MS Logon (support multiple Domain) <-- let this unchecked !
that fix your issue about screen saver
and maybe you miss
Code: Select all
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"WinVNC"="\"C:\\Program Files\\UltraVNC\\WinVNC.exe\" -servicehelper"
so the best way, uninstall ...reboot... install V100 and follow previous message and don't forget to check all options mentionned on picture
so you must input 2x time user/password exactly same:
1st with UltraVNC to connect to your computer remotely
2nd with Windows authentication (login on your remote windows)
single sign on would be added later with UltraVNC V2

When removing the old version of RealVNC, the software also removes the driver and kicked me out. Then I can't login anymore.
I can't connect to the new driver..
Now what next?
