black rectangels on server side

Post by Far-Far-Away »

Hello

My customer uses SC, I use vncviewer (release18) or vncviever RC206. Connection is made via public internet through repeater 1.02 (mode II).

When looking customer screen, sometimes black rectangles appears on screen (there where is activity) and then after a while screen draws ok.

black rectangles (or squares?) shows sometimes there where is screen activity: under text cursor, on lower right corner where is clock or network activity icon. sometimes rectangles just shows on some random places on screen.

Usual this is caused by using the ultraEncoder + local cursor handling
UltraEncoder does not support local cursor shapes--> black reactangles.

I did try to find settings to alter, but did not to figure out what to change. This is a sample screenshot from server screen:

It was a connection made over a slow modem.

These black rectangels flickers and appears on thos places on the screen where there is some activity. Sometimes they are black, sometimes some other color.

These are viewer settings:

During connection, i did try each 3 settings on Mouse Cursor -section, with no luck as rectangles appears also there, where cursor was not.

On remote side customer has SC

I sometimes have the same problem with weak connections.
In my case it happens when Auto-select decides to enable 'Cache encoding', which is IMHO kind of buggy.

Actually, I'd love to be able to disallow Cache encoding in all cases, no matter how bad the connection is.

What do you think ?

(otherwise I'll have to do it myself, but I guess I'm not the only one who has problems with Cache encoding)

We know, the cache encoding sometimes get out of sync...
The problem seems to be related to encoder switching

But the bandwidth savings are also big...over modem the difference
is huge.

Ok, I see, so there is a chance that this problem gets fixed once (after 1.0) ?

Well, you can still disable Auto-select and manually uncheck Cache encoding until it is fixed, so it's not a really severe problem.

Wouah, appreciate your nice information
Now, I think that explain my issue with my customer using SC 20.3 from Paris
the connection still very unstable and lost connection and crash her network NAT router on long distance ADSL to ADSL

now i would include in my side (until better solution)
vncviewer -listen -noauto -quickoption 4 -256colors
UltraVNC 1.0.9.6.1 (built 20110518)
OS Win: xp home + vista business + 7 home
only experienced user, not developer
