Hi there,
latest server and viewer installed on two machines which belong to the same Home Network.
When trying to access this specific machine with 192.168.0.5 - I can access this machine from the other one. BUT, when trying to access it with the public IP address, I get the ""Failed to connect to server!" message.
I have forwarded both ports 5800 & 5900 to IP 192.168.0.11 (which is this PC's IP) but have not made this address static.
What else can I do? I have disabled WIN XP Prof's firewall without any success.
I really don't know what else to do - I have even formatted my PC to try and solve this.
I have tested ports 5800 & 5900 with Shields Up and both ports are OPEN.
I am sure that it's some setting in my router.
I have a Netgear DG834GT which connects to my own PC with a cable.
I will really appreciate any help to solve this.
Regards,
Deon

When configuring router/firewall i found log very usefull, as it most of the time gives some information, where connection is blocked. Unfortunately I don't know if Netgear DG834GT has logging capability.
Does ng has firewall, if so, have you made a rule in there?
good luck!

Thanx for the reply.
Yes, my router does have a log I can watch. Is there anything specific I have to look for?
This is the latest entries in my log:
Wed, 2005-06-08 22:27:49 - UDP Packet - Source:204.1.226.228,137 Destination:165.146.29.81,137 - [DOS]
Wed, 2005-06-08 22:28:25 - TCP Packet - Source:204.1.226.228,39034 Destination:192.168.0.2,5800 - [uvnc_http match]
Wed, 2005-06-08 22:29:07 - TCP Packet - Source:204.1.226.228,39083 Destination:192.168.0.2,5900 - [uvnc match]
I have just checked that the ports 5800 & 5900 are open and it is.
I really don't know what else I can do?
I will really appreciate your suggestions.
Assigned by DHCP: What does this mean. This is what's standing just above this computer's IP Address. (This is the one I want to access from outside.)

Deon

Deon:
Heya. Most (but I'm sure not all) commercial NAT'ing routers like D-Link, Netgear and Linksys won't allow what you're trying: you can't connect to an internal machine using the external address. They're just nto that smart. That's the whole reason for "port forwarding checking" tools like the one at GoToMyVNC.com.
cheers,
Scott

Hi there,
I have just run a check with the tool you suggested, and it found nothing.
Nothing is responding.
What does this mean?
I'm sort of a newbie to port forwarding and so on.
According to http://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2 my ports 5800 & 5900 are open.
Anything else I can check?
Regards,
Deon

maybe http://doc.uvnc.com/addons/index.html could be helpful.
Specifically http://doc.uvnc.com/addons/routerconf.html

if they are open then maybe your not giving the person on the internet the right ip address??Deon wrote:Hi there,

go to www.whatismyip.com
and give them the one that is not the 192 address?
You didnt specify thats what you did but Im wondering if that could be a part of the issue.
Lastly - not all routers allow pc's on the internal network to use the external IP to connect .. say You have port forwarding set up for PC A on the router. PC B connects to 12.X.X.X:5900 it fails. But connecting to 192.168.1.11 works just fine.
This is a router thing. Technically it should know from its own routing table to send it back to the other pc based on its rules.. but that has and probably will be an issue with many routers.
