First of all, this software is really amazing!
Allowing remote control through web browser is really neat!
Thanks for all the developers for this!
I am trying to setup my home machine to be controlled from my work, and I plan to use the web browser to do so.
Here are my components:
A. Home machine running Windows XP (private IP)
B. Home router w/ NAT enabled on port 5800 (both UDP and TCP), I have a static IP address for the WAN port of the router.
C. Office proxy (I have not much control)
D. Office machine running IE
On my office machine, I have enabled HTTP accesses to go through the office proxy (C).
With the above settings, when I open my browser on (D) and type in the static IP of (B), I am able to get the login screen.
However, after I entered the password I got an error saying
"Network error: no route to server: <static ip>"
Anyone know what I should do here?
Thanks.

Accessing home machine through company firewall
testing
try telnet [ip address] 5900.
you should get a reply that starts with RFB.
if not something is wrong.
are you using dhcp on the computer?
Is your router set up to use the right ip address for the computer?
You are using thr router"s ip address not the computers. Right?

I got the reply.
After enabling NAT for port 5900 at my router.
I did a telnet to my home server port 5900 (I need to first telnet to my company's proxy server to do so), and did got the RFB reply.
However, the same error still reported when I use the browser to access my home server.
What else should I do?
Thanks.

i have NO control over my company's firewall and i know for a fact that they block ports 5800 and 5900 - you need both to be working to use the javaviewer. can you try using the vncviewer on port 443 (this is usually left open on corp firewalls) and set your router and server to route and listen on 443 respectively?
Re: Accessing home machine through company firewall
Any luck with this? I have the same situation, except I control both routers.
A. Home machine on Windows XP (private IP)
B. Linksys Router configured to forward the port to A.
C. Netgear Router
D. Home machine on Windows XP
I can connect from D to A and get the login screen. But, I get the same error message.

I have gotten this to work from my home. I do have control of both firewalls, but in the spirit of keeping as many ports closed as possible, I reused a port.
Basically on my work network, I have port 80, 443, 22, 21 and a couple more I can' t think of. I am currently using port 21 as my outgoing connection from the office and port forward my netgear to my main rig. Then on the server side, i changed it's listen port to 21.
I never FTP to my box at home, so there isn't any conflicts.

Bypass it using the SSH port and this program (Reverse HTTP Starter).RobH wrote:The problem is the proxy. I cannot use the server with a reverse connect on any of my clients running a proxy server.
There is no direct connection to the internet.
If someone knows how to get this to work without having any control over the proxy settings let me know!
see VNC-Related products
Everything remains the same and you just keep this running in your taskbar. I found it to be the easiest of all the alternatives out there especially since I'm not a networking, 'guru' myself. Good luck.
