Setting up SC on friends computer

Post by Guest »

I have been reading thru the posts and I haven't seen the exact answers I need so I will bother you with them again.

I have created my SC.exe and I need to send it to my friend(s) so I can work on their machines. They have DSL with their modem doing DHCP. They are being assigned 192.168.x.x. My DSL modem is set up the exact same way and I get assigned address 192.168.x.x. What do I need to do on their end if anything and what IP address do I need to put into my helpdesk.txt file? I use the UltraVNC viewer and server on my in-house machines, would the server be better to use than the SingleClick? Thanks in advanced for your expertise.

if you don't have a public static IP, you need to use dynamic dns, where the hostname is static instead of IP change anytime.

if your NAT/router DSL support Dynamic DNS (DDNS), please subscribe to same service provider of your DSL modem
(like dyndns.org or no-ip.com)
so
go to your ddns provider..
open an account.. select your personal hostname....register it
example:
myhost.ddns.tld
put all your informations asked from your NAT/router DSL modem under step DDNS config... save it... maybe need restart of your DSL modem
update your helpdesk.txt with your new ddns hostname.

helpdesk.txt
[HOST]
Internet support
-connect myhost.ddns.tld:5500 -noregistry

update your SingleClick and send to your friend.

He'll also have to open 5500 for TCP in his firewall/router (he has to have one since he has a private IP on his PC) and point that port to his private IP address. Until he does that nothing else will work.

I can make my machine have a static IP - 192.168.0.10 and my friends. Would this make it easier.

Yes, in your router the NAT translation would be better if you were static inside, but that has absolutely nothing at all to do with the IP you're using when you browse the Internet. You must know your public IP and that's what the DDNS service discussed earlier is for. Until you have that info this will not work.

you don't need different SC for your friends !

only 1 SC needed for all yours friends you want help and there can obtain help only from you !

you can send by e-mail with the url of your SingleClick for direct download and double click
or
send your own SC with Instant Messenger

Only at your viewer side you need to configure your NAT router 1x time and save forever for receive incoming request from your friends on port 5500 (default)
your viewer must in listen mode to receive help from your friends.
