Video Hook Driver licensing

Post by Ari »

Hi,

I work for a software company where we develop classroom computer control software.
Currently, our software doesn't use any video drivers and I am considering changing it to use a video driver to enhance the screen transfer performance.

I found the video hook driver at the UVNC site and if it's possible, I want to use it for our software.
I checked the licensing section for the hook driver but I'm not sure if I can use it for commercial software.

Does anyone know if I can use the hook driver for our commercial software and redistribute it?
Is the video hook driver also under GPL?

How I will use it:

Bundle driver modules and installer on the CD
vnccom.sys
vncdrv.dll
vncdrv.inf
vncdrv.sys
vnchelp.dll
Installer:
setupdrv.exe

I would like to: 1) Install video driver as is and 2) Have our software
control the video driver.

I will not use any UltraVNC modules or modify the source cord.

If you have some advice about this issue, I would appreciate it. Thanks! :)

The driver is not GPL nor freeware.
The driver license only allow the use and distribution with UltraVnc.

1) You can distribute with the exe from out site (source is already available @ Ultravnc site)

2) If you modify the UltraVnc source code, you also need to provide the modified source code together with the exe.
As modified version we understand a customized version with the same functionality.

Current driver is stable, but during development a big Beta test group was needed. Using the driver for UltraVnc was a win win situation, UltraVnc user got a free speed boost, and beta test where done on a lot
of different videocards and cpu.

Thanks, Rudi for your reply.
I guess I won't be able to use it by itself  , but I would be happy to be a beta tester for any future versions!

You may want to look into TightVNC. The Demoforge people that allow them to use the demoforge video drivers also allows others to do so - if they like your cause.
