SC and software firewalls

Post by tim71 »

Until now I didn't knew any special issue with SC and software firewalls - until today...

I was having more or less occasional lockups, hangs and disconnections with one of my "clients"....

At first I thought it was about his wireless internet connection and everything, until.... I just somehow noticed that Sygate Personal Firewall was giving security alerts - tray icon was always red after connecton was hanging or even broke and all alerts were about SC.exe launching winvnc.exe etc etc...

Then I knew what was needed to be done - I opened Security options of SPF and disabled driver level protection.

And what you think??? Problem was solved and I didn't experienced even one connection breakdown after that!

This was all!

Even anti-application hijacking option wasn't needed to be disabled!

Once again - this issue is about running Sygate Personal Firewall on customer machine.

With customers having Kerio firewall for example, this problem was never occuring...

It's obviously not a bug, but something, that's good to know for avoiding problems and troubleshooting SC connections.
