Could singleclick use the master DNS server?

Post by glennshelpdesk »

My VNC client has a dynamic IP address, so when I boot the computer, I set the IP address for the subdomain name that I use in SC, in the primary DNS for my domain. This generally works fine, except in two scenarios:

1. Someone needs help before the IP address gets propagated to their local DNS server
2. My network glitches and I get a new IP address without noticing, and without updating the master DNS.

I wonder if SC could be enhanced to query the master DNS for its preset domain name, at least in the case where it fails to connect to the IP obtained from the local DNS? My primary DNS configures a pretty short timeout for propagation, but not all secondary DNS servers seem to honor that timeout, and it can be hours before propagation occurs. This enhancement would completely cure issue 1, and would make curing issue 2 much quicker, once someone trying to connect has a failure, and I figure out that they are using the wrong IP address.

Or maybe there is another solution that could be applied, that I am unaware of?
