Install service fails? (logged in as Administrator)

Post by Geronimo »

I've installed the latest version of UltraVNC on two different servers, both logged in with the local administrator account, on one machine I could install the service no problems, on the other one I get a "Failed to create a new service" error.

I've tried manually adding the service with sc.exe (which also fails), I've tried exporting the service from the registry editor on the machine where it works and merge it on the other machine and that also fails.

Any ideas as to what could be wrong?

@Geronimo: What OS are your servers (what is the good, what is the bad)?
Whats are your logs?
Have you "uvnc_service" when you launch "services.msc"?
If yes, please delete it with sc command: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windo ... /sc-delete
Please uninstall the current version, please delete the installed folder if it has not been deleted.

I will start out by saying that I solved the problem, but I will add that I am running Windows Server 2019, if anybody else encounters the same problem in the future. I tried looking for the logs, but I didn't manage to find them, for future references can you tell me where they are stored?

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, rebooting and what not. Googling the error codes made me believe it was some kind of problem with Windows. Search results gave me an indication of the "registry being full", and even though I had plenty of space on the hard drive I decided to try and run a Windows Disk Cleanup, this took forever and even though there wasn't too much stuff in any of the folder, this seems to have solved my problem!

After the disk cleanup I was able to install UltraVNC as a service!

@Geronimo: For the moment, the log file is not at the good place, it is in %ProgramFiles%\uvnc bvba\UltraVNC.
It will be at the good place soon.
