File Corruption during File Transfer ?

Post by Johhny Faster »

Hello All!

I am new to using UltraVNC and so may be wrong about what I THINK happened, so I thought I would "check in" with those more-informed for a clearer understanding.

I was working on a remote computer and trying out the "File Transfer" feature. I transfered the program-file "Belarc Advisor" from the \Download directory of my (server) computer to a directory on the remote computer.

I then tried to install the program several times. Each time I tried to install it, it came up with the "Installation Wizard" "splash" screen, hung for a while and then closed itself.

At first I thought the problem was because I was trying to install it remotely, so today I went to the physical location of the remote computer and tried to install the program from there. It failed to install trying it this way also.

So then I downloaded another copy of Belarc Advisor from the Belarc web-site to the same directory I "File Transfered" the original program to (renaming it by appending a "2" to the original file name).

This time Belarc did install successfully and runs normally. The only difference(s) I can think of between the failed attempts at installing and the one that was successful is that the "failed" file was transferred to the remote computer and installation was attempted remotely.

Presented with a choice between the failure being due to remote installation and the failure being caused by file corruption, which of these two are more likely ?

Both ? The file installed successfully on the server computer when it was first downloaded from the Belarc web-site, and it seems unlikely that it was corrupted while it was on my (server) computer.

Have there been reports of this kind of thing happening ? If so how often does it occur & how serious a problem is it ?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

I guess the size of both files slightly differs.

I also had the problem with RC18 servers, what version did you use?

make sure you have 1.0.0 rc 20.5 fully installed at both ends.

then download the newest version of the viewer here:

http://www.uvnc.com/RC206/vncviewer.exe

copy the exe to both computers.

this version of the viewer fixes the file transfer corruption problem.

try your file transfer again.

then report back here.

Sorry I'm so late.

I "worked through" the file transfer problem by just using the remote computer to download it itself. Installed & runs normally.

However, the "server" computer is down right now, and so my "Remote Computing" endeavors are "on-hold".

Thanks for the update on the VNC Viewer update, and also the confirmation for the fact that it is a "known issue".

My concern is/was that it was something else, either on the remote machine or on the server.
