If you set notification ON and you provide a local or remote text it crash ?
OS server

I do specify the message remotely (in clieent) and the server is configured to show a notification if there is one provided by the client.

Server OS: Windows 10 22H2 64-bit.

As I read the thread you did re-upload version 1.4.0.3. So I re-downloaded it and guess what? This version does not crash for me. As of my understanding the only thing you changed was the fixed build version. I did not do any binary diffs or anything else but the previous build was version 1.4.0.2 but built on 2023-01-09 at 01:00am. So the only explanation I have is that something went wrong during build/release. But don't want complain or guess here. The version in the newer build (1.4.0.3, 2023-01-09 17:53) seem to work for me "magically".

So thanks a lot for checking and fixing the issue. For now I did not find further bugs and will also test repeater connections soon.

Update: Tested Repeater connection. No further issues discovered.

Is winvnc.exe still running as ghost process.

I have rebooted the computer, so it shouldn't. How do I check this?

It seems to show as 1.4.0.2 on several computers when I go to right click on the eyeball, and do "About WinVNC", but Spiceworks (old, I know) shows it as 1.4.0.3.

When you set up the download links, did you put in the correct download link in all places? I now no longer recall which one I grabbed, but if they differ, please fix that. I wonder if I grabbed one of the interim ones. This is a good reason to update the number for every change.

Creating version "1.4.0.4" would fix this mistake too.

If you can put that one up here, I'll grab it and test that it works. Then everybody will know that is a good one going forward, including you. I think in the long run, the minor clerical detail will avoid a lot of chasing around.

yep, i will update the number and put this evening ( GMT) a 1.4.0.4 online even when it's just a different nummer to avoid all caching issue's.

I am seeing this in task manager:

VNC server

VNC server
uvnc_service

The last one is slightly faded out, so is that a "ghost process"? Otherwise, please explain how to get you this information.

normal when you do a
net stop uvnc_service both should be gone.

also, when you select to show session you have
one winvnc.exe running in session 0
one winvnc.exe running in the user session.

Both should be killed when service is stopped.

Oh, I meant to mention that in addition to multiple reboots/reinstalls, I did a couple stop service and restart service, all to no avail.

A couple installs shows it as 1.4.0.4

This is both in the "About WinVNC" and using Spiceworks' inventory.

Thanks for doing this. It provides some sanity. I still use the old Spiceworks inventory program to look across networks and then sort to find out of date software.

Thanks, that's a textfile that require a manual update will make a 1.4.0.5 with updated textfiles.
