Re: download
Hey Rudi
Thanks a lot for the release and all your work you are putting in.
I did some tests and I can confirm that most of the things seem to work. Basically the same level as version 1.3.8.2.
Still I found the Notification on connect feature to be broken for me. The message is never displayed on remote side. Instead I always get the "ID: ID::<id>" message.
Another small issue I found is that the admin properties dialog does not fit on an a screen with 1280x800 pixels. It's just too high and partially inaccessible behind the taskbar if the dialog is expanded.
Also somehow my service lost the ability to display UAC dialogs after opening the admin panel. However I was unable to reliably reproduce the issue, so I can't say what changed and which conditions lead to the issue.

Re: download
Unfortunately this release does not work for me at all. The service is running but I am totally unable to do any successful authentication, neither via mslogon2 nor via built-in authentication. The only thing it seems to do is to re-spawn the tray icon so after a few minutes I am having hundreds of them. As far as I can see it's crashing continuously in SecureVNCPlugin64.dsm and respawned.Rudi De Vos wrote: ↑2022-12-11 13:06 Notification seems to be a hard nut to crack.

When disabling SecureVNCPlugin still WinVNC.exe process crashes on authentication. So I am unable to build any successful connection to the server.

Re: download
I confirm that there is some problem. if you use winvnc as a service and try to open the admin properties icon they are duplicated on the tray. and the service closes (then after a while it reopens)
Re: download
I did also rollback to 1.4.0 and this version also included the issue. WinVNC.exe seems to crash on loading of the secureVNC plugin and cycling.
I did not find a workaround and rolled back to version 1.3.8.2.

It seems to be a x64 only issue, was breaking my head on it as i always test using x86 ...abd that's working.
I was able to repeat it using x64 and encryption plugin.

Re: UltraVNC 1.4.0.1 - Download
First of all many thanks for having a look. I hope you enjoyed your vacation.
Just out of curiosity... Where do you actually still get machines which are 32-bit only and which (supported) OS do you run on them? Is there any other reason to still run any 32-bit applications?
Sadly I have to report that I still got issues.
First the good news: The notification message now seems to work for me using repeater connection.
Unfortunately I still get winvnc.exe processes crashing immediately when directly connecting to the service (using SecureVNC plugin). Perhaps its my configuration but I am unable to connect to the service using UltraVNC 1.4.0.2 client. I am getting an authentication prompt but after entering the password the winvnc.exe service is crashing and re-spawning immediately, dropping the connection from the client.
I tried disabling mslogon2 at no avail as I thought it might be related.
Weirdly a repeater connection seems to work without winvnc.exe crashing and even displaying notification properly.

Re: UltraVNC 1.4.0.x - Download
Thanks so much for doing this.
I am not yet seeing it on the main download page at https://uvnc.com/downloads/ultravnc.html .
Does that mean it is not yet approved as final official release ,or is it just an administrative thing you have not yet done?

Re: UltraVNC 1.4.0.x - Download
Version 1.4.x is not yet ready for release. It initially was planned to include some cloud-connect feature but this turns out to require some more fine-tuning. Instead Rudi is currently working on a 1.4 release putting all the open fixes of 1.3.x in it. As you can see from this thread there was a pre-release for forum users here and some feedback has been provided with some issues found. So as of now it's better to go for the latest released version until version 1.4.x is released after some closed user group testing. Feel free however to get the latest release from this thread downloads and provide some feedback and test results. But I would not recommend to roll out this version to any production system as of now.VNCHELP890 wrote: ↑2023-01-03 15:53 Does that mean it is not yet approved as final official release ,or is it just an administrative thing you have not yet done?

Re: UltraVNC 1.4.0.x - Download
Will there be an announcement once it is ready? Or at least, will you let us know here?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: UltraVNC 1.4.0.x - Download
Don't worry. I am quite sure there will be updated release candidates here and if common understanding is that the release is stable and good to be released it will also be put up to official download pages.VNCHELP890 wrote: ↑2023-01-04 15:43 Will there be an announcement once it is ready? So if you want to help testing and validating feel free to watch the thread and provide feedback on any new pre-release. But also expect bugs and problems.
If you want a stable release for your production systems only then wait until it appears on the official download channel.

Thanks

Alright. It might be just me then...
Here is a quick dump of my unfiltered ini:
Knowing you can't reproduce the issue I can play with some ini options. My Ini has been migrated since quite a while... Thinking about the SDMPluginConfig for example... I will do some tests.

Re: UltraVNC 1.4.0.x - Download
I think I have nailed it down. My INI containing
When set to
It does not crash.
Another thing I noticed during testing is that the second WinVNC.exe process is taking about 50% CPU time for quite some time. Not sure what it's doing there. These things might be less noticeable on faster machines but my test laptop currently is running a Core 21 Duo U9400@1.4GHz where the process is taking almost all CPU resources for 10-15 seconds during service startup. I have to test if this was the case with earlier versions too.

Re: UltraVNC 1.4.0.x - Download
Tested with your ini and no crash ( with and without notification)
Checked code that's only used when notification is on and repeater is off
and indeed something is wrong in that part. Allow 255 chars in a 63 char buffer
Bug
Notification ON, repeater OFF, big viewer name ( > 40 chars)
Server crash trying to copy the viewer name in a smaller buffer.
Do you have long hostnames ?
This bug was with service/app 32 and 64 bit

Re: UltraVNC 1.4.0.x - Download
Probably cosmetic only... 64bit winvnc.exe shows version number as 1.4.0.2. The file date is right at 1/8/2023 so this is probably only cosmetic.
Thank you for this fantastic program!!!

Re: UltraVNC 1.4.0.x - Download
Well, the hostname (exclude domainname) of the compute I have used for esting is 14 characters long. Not sure whey this should have triggered the bug. But I was connecting via repeater and also submitting a notification message (which ideed is of course longer).
I will do some tests - likely tomorrow - and report.
Thank you!

Re: UltraVNC 1.4.0.x - Download
I gonna rebuild all so the number is also correct 1.4.0.3. Special as we want to test winvnc.exe for 64bit
Probably isn't good enough, else you never know if the correct exe was used or not and we only loose time.
Wait for an update
Done
Re-uploaded checked and tested again with the release builds

Re: UltraVNC 1.4.0.x - Download
Unfortunately I have to report it's still crashing for me on every single connect when NOTIFICATION=1 is used in INI.
Changing it to NOTIFICATION=0 is the only way to get a connection.
It needs to be related to the notification message. I am also able to connect if notification is enabled but set to "show only if client provides notification information" AND no notification is provided. As soon as I provide a notification message it is crashing again.
First I thought it might perhaps be about the lenght of characters as I was using e-mail address with "@" and also colons and such characters. But it still keeps crashing if the message is a simple "." character only.

Re: UltraVNC 1.4.0.x - Download
Just reporting back here that 1.4.0.3 seems to work for me, using that version as viewer (mine), and "host" (remote). Also, 1.4.0.3 works with older versions OK as well. This is with both Windows 10 and Windows 11 in the mix. My PC is Windows 11. I think in all cases, I installed the new one over the older version.
Oh, one thing. Sometimes, it will not pick up the new version if you choose to reboot later. Even after the later reboot, it will show the old version, so not even sure if the new one applied, or if the later reboot blew it away. Another install and immediate reboot takes care of that issue. This has happened more than once.

Re: UltraVNC 1.4.0.x - Download
Just tried twice to install on a Windows 10 PC. It keeps coming up showing 1.4.0.2 not 1.4.0.3.
I even did the install with nothing else open, and told it to reboot at the end. The reboot seemed awful fast, so I'm not sure if it is not killing the process, and just does a partial reboot, if that is even possible.
???
By the way, I am installing this as a user, and when it comes time to do stuff, it comes up and asks permissions, at which point I put in the domain admin username and password.
Any suggestions?
