UltraVNC SC - Why has this be so complicated?

Post by ltrvnc »

I am using UltraVNC since back in the days.

What always bugged me was the online creator beeing seemingly outdated (2005).

Also I never wanted to give my IP or domainname away for an online creator.

So my question is: Why has this still b so complicated in 2022?

Why do I have to use external programs just to compile a new fresh SC based on UltraVNC 1.3.8.0?

Please! update your howto and teach people on creating the SC themselves. You should realize that some postings dating back to 2009 were complaining even then.

That said: Thanks a lot for your program!!!

Maybe now that 1.3.8.0 is now concrete, and available, he can refocus some time on SC.

I have not yet used SC, but it looks promising. However, I will wait and see if there are some new developments to bring it more up to date as discussed above before trying it out. In fact, I'd be happy to help test the development versions.

Well given my experience over the years I highly doubt any progress here unfortunately...

The focus of this project detoriated far back.

@rvk
Thanks for your effort much appreciated

@rudi @all
If I use the *newest* onlinecreator here https://support1.uvnc.com/cgi-bin/upload11.pl then I get a winvnc.exe dated back form 23.05.2019 which I have to replace manually by the newest version from the official zip file. Along with fiddeling around with at least 2 external programs, editing config files and replacing outdated SecureVNCPlugins that are hidden somewhere in forum posts.

Honestly do you think anybody is interested in this anymore around this time of the process? This is not for "normal people" sorry. (I myself am a nerd btw.)

I get it that the online creator once should have made it *simpler* but in fact what really would made it simple would be a detailed guide and batch script on page 1 of the site here. Nobody wants to be searching for this in forum posts dated 2009.

Come on Rudi it's 2022 and *this* is exactly why UltraVNCSC never made it big despite all it's advantages over that closed source b*llshit.

So the question remains:

Why has this be so complicated?

Hi everyone,
lets try to help everyone on Rudi, because he is contributed so many years time and effor on this project (UltraVNC) and maybe got little time to work on SC too ...

the best thing to me is to DELETE ALL OBSOLETE forums with more than 2-3 years information especially on SC ...
create a spam new forum for this, and start collaborating everyone who has some time to share ... :)

trying to make it work for my own actually, here is what I have achieved so far

download LATEST SC files, helpdesk.txt and winvnc.exe (build 1.3.8.1) , from https://uvnc.eu/download/SC20/winvncSC20.zip
(see also thread viewtopic.php?p=110630&hilit=winvncSC20.exe#p110630)

edit helpdesk.txt files with hostnames/ip addresses to connect to my local lan AND/OR to connect through internet access
(you need to know some extra steps to perform port redirection on your home/office router ...)

after editing the helpdesk.txt, you have to zip the 2 files (helpdesk.txt AND winvnc.exe) into a new zip file, for example testsc.zip
connect to the url https://support1.uvnc.com/cgi-bin/upload11.pl , and UPLOAD the newly created testsc.zip file
you have to enter username : foo , password: foobar in the credentials upon uploading !!
After that, the online site creates a NEW.exe file (same name with the .zip filename you created before ... eg testsc.exe that you have to download and run in in order to test connectivity

SOS !! On your "admin pc" YOU HAVE to run vncviewer in listen mode !!

ALL these steps are working fine few days now BUT I haven't test it with encryption, only default settings, and only on WIn7Pro and Win10Pro machines. WIll do it in the next days, and I will get back to you whenever possible ...

IF anyone else has something to share, feel free to "jump in" to this thread

Many thanks
Panagiotis

PS. I forgot how to add my own custom bmp logos to that build, but this is not a big deal for me ! :)
If someone remember the specific actions, where / how to download logos/bmp, pls share

Personally I don't want to use the online creator.
My credentials don't leave my computer. Period.
