Hi there,
PC to be connected to:
Windows XP Prof SP2 with latest updates behind Netgear DG834GT wireless ADSL Router.
I have UltraVNC Viewer & Server installed on this machine.
I try to connect to above machine from ADSL Connected Laptop with UltraVNC Viewer.
I cannot connect to the above mentioned machine. I asume it has to do with ports and/or the firewall.
I will really appreciate it if anyone can help me out.
I think I am sure about the IP address.
Regards,
Deon

1.set up port forwarding on router www.portforward.com
2.set up exceptions in firewall on Server computer (CPU you wish to see)
3.Verify the ports are open on the PC you wish to see = https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
4.Configure the server the proper way password or user group and such.

Hi there,
I have confirmation that the port 5900 is open.
When I tried to connect just now, I got a message that says "Invalid Protocol".
I think this brings me closer to connecting, even though I don't know how to fix this. Both the server and viewer have the same version of UltraVNC with no Plug ins installed.
If only I could get to the point where it asks my password ...
If I don't get it working today, I just might as well give up.
Thanx for your patience.
Regards,
Deon

Invalid protocol gives you a few reasons I believe
one of which is the DSM plugin for security. Check to ensure your DSM plugin isnt configured or is configured... depending on what you want.
There is a checkbox in both the server and Viewer to use the DSM if you uncheck it it shouldnt be used. If you are using the DSM ensure the key you generated on the server is in use on the viewer.
and its always best to try this on a local lan prior to working over inet because there are always issues with port forwarding and firewalls... And for new people to this or any program there is always a learning curve..
