I have just installed UltraVNC on a Windows 2000 box and I'm trying to configure the server. I can't get at the Default Properties (RC 18) or the Admin Properties (RC20.5).
I am an admin on my machine. When I hit Admin Properties on the popup menu, I get a message that I don't have sufficient priviliges to edit the default WinVNC settings. I tried logging on as Administrator and tried creating a new admin user, all with the same result.
I can change most of the values in the registry, but what about the default password?
Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, redge!
The service is installed, registered, and running. It logs on at the LocalSystem user, the same as almost all the rest of the services.
This may be related: When I run the "service helper", nothing (that I can see) happens. What is it supposed to do? I can't find it in the documentation.
Again, any help will be appreciated!

Solution
OK, I found the solution. It seems to have started with a glitch in the RC18 install.
I found in the source code where the error message is displayed. It wants to be able to write the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORL\WinVNC3\Default. This key existed (from RC18) but could not be changed or deleted by an Admin user!
I tried uninsatlling UltraVNC, but the key remained.
I used regedt32 to change the permissions on the key, deleted it and did a search&destroy of "vnc" throughout the registry. I then reinstalled RC20.5 and all is well now.
I don't know how the permissions got messed up on the key in the first place. It's been years and years since my machine has had a fresh Win2k install. Maybe I'm due?
