Error on file transfer

Post by Guindillas »

Hi:

I have problems with the file transfer option.

UVnc versión 1.2.2.4 on server and viewer using SecureVNCPlugin.dsm Ver.2.4.0.0

Server on Windows 10 Pro 32 bits

Viewer with repeater on Windows 10 Pro 64 bits

I try to send a 12 Mb file from viewer to server. When it starts, the scroll bar goes to 60% immediately and soon the connection fail with the warning "File Transfer interrupted: reason connection with server broken." and the connection is lost.

I try again and see that it has copied just 350 Kb but the scroll bar goes to 65% and again the connection is lost with the previous warning and so on.

After many attempts, I see that the scroll bar goes to 100% indicating "transfer completed", but it is not true, there is still a lot of file to copy.

Previously the viewer and repeater worked perfectly on windows 7 32 bits. I have reformatted the computer and installed win 10 Pro 64, but I don't think it influences the problem.

I have tested the part of the viewer / repeater with the version of UVNC 1.2.2.4 for 32 and 64 bits with the same result.

When I send files from the server to viewer then it works fine.

The remote control works without problems.

Is there anything I can do to solve this problem?

Attached server configuration.

Thanks in davance.

Re: Error on file transfer

We are current working on 1.2.3.0.
Available via the forum, https://forum.ultravnc.net/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=35531

I don't know if this wil fix it, but this is the only version we use to debug.
Please try it first .
To be able to fix something, we always need to be able to repeat it, so we see what happen insite.

Hi Rudi:

Server repeater and viewer with 1.2.3.0 version installed.
SecureVNC Plugin v 2.4.1.0

The problem is the same.

Do we change this thread to version-specific help 1.2.3.0? Can you do it?

Thanks.

It can stay here, 1.2.2.x and 1.2.3.x have the same issue.

**Do you copy a file or a folder ?
**Destination folder:
Please, check if the destination folder is writable for the current user.
Can you also try to copy the file to c:\temp or something else writable for all, does this has the same issue.
Just to exclude some permission issue's.

Copy a 12 Mb file from server to viewer sith encryption.
Destination is writeable. The temporary file exists and connecting again continues the copy where i left it.

Thanks.

Retested
viewer/server in Belgium
Repeater in Kansas
Distance between repeater and pc 7500km

start vncviewer -dsmplugin SecureVNCPlugin.dsm -proxy support2.uvnc.com:5901 id:38090
server
service_commandline = -connect support2.uvnc.com -autoreconnect id:38090

Transferred 120Mb in both directions, not to fast as each bit need to travel 15.000km but both were successfull.

Please test with our test repeater.
The start viewer start and service_commandline show the connection parameters, it's open for testing.

Hi:

The test conditions do not match the ones I use.
I am using viewer and repeater on the same machine. I connect the viewer to repeater as localhost:5901
File Transfer fails and in addition the progress bar does not work properly, just start it goes to 66% and indicates that the transfer is finished when there is still file to copy.

Can you test it with repeater in local mode?

Thanks.

if the indikator is on 66% or finished the rest is in the TCP Receive Window (Buffer)
the buffer can be 16Mb.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TCP_window_scale_option

Viewer and Repeater on same machine -> fast connection -> Big TCP Receive Window

The filetranfer timeout must be longer then the time to transfer this buffer (16mb) from repeater to slow server

The wrong indikator is only a optical issue.

It is important to emphasize that when I send files from the server to the viewer it works fine.

The problem is only when I send files from the viewer to the server.

My ADSL is 2,5 Mbps line.

Thanks.

Can't repeat it.
Retested with
-repeater on server pc
-repeater on viewer pc

Viewer 1.2.3 has in misc options the FileTransfer Timeout.
Possible increasing the value can make a difference.

Change the timeout from 30 to 300.

Since I press "send" in file transfer (from viewer to server), in 8 seconds I get the error "Filetransfer interupted: reason connection with server broken".

What else can I test?

Thanks again.

Hello again:

I have done a test with a notebook from the same ADSL (a 2,5 Mbps) connection for the viewer
that generated the failure, An i5 3317U 1.7 GHz, Windows 7 Pro 64 bits 12 Gb RAM.

I have installed the repeater and viewer of version 1.2.3.0 64 bits and SecureVNCplugin64.dsm. Sending file from viewer to server, at 15 seconds the error "Filetransfer interupted: reason connection with server broken" appears.

Then I changed the File Transfer Timeout from 30 to 300 and I could send the file without problems, so I think that the problem must be on my computer that is much faster.

My computer is an i7-8700 3.20 GHz with 16 Gb RAM and 1 TB SSD hard drive with Windows 10 Pro 64 bits. I have tried to change the Filetransfer timeout up to 3000, but the error always appears.

Could you do this test on a similar computer?

Thanks.

in the ultravnc.ini (server) you also can set
FileTransferTimeout=30(default)

You can also try to change this value

Hi:

On the server side, I changed FileTransferTimeout to 40 and it seems to be fine. I could send the file from viewer to server without cuts or errors.

I think that if on the viewer side I put FileTransferTimeout to 40 before making the connection, the server should set its FileTransferTimeout to 40 also without having to manually configure it on server side.

It seems that it does not set it on the server side unless it is manually adjusted.

Thanks.

If server settings FieTransferTimeout=1 and viewer settings timeout is 30, i think it should be overwritten server setting FileTransferTimeout=30 in session.

Currently the server does not re-register FileTransferTimeout parameter.

Thanks.
