UltraVNC 1.2.3.0 preview 1 - Download links

Post by Rudi De Vos »

Changes:
added prevent server screensaver while connected.
The first idee was to simulate mouse moves on the viewer site, but if server send mouse updates as bitmaps the viewer can't detect it.
Add as server option ( we actual tell the OS the vnc is a mediaplayer that require the screen)
Image

viewer: moved to tabbed options
mru behave different.
You need to add/del the servers yourself.
The servers now also save all settings with his name.

I'm trying the new version of vnc viewer
If I select the repeater option when I click on connect it does not connect but the screen reappears and I have to click on connect again

Rudi,

Just stopping by to let you know I haven't seen any issues with 1.2.3.0 other than the normal grey screen at connect with Windows 10 (Been happening for a while, not sure which version it started with). I have to hit the refresh button on the viewer and it works fine after that.

hello Rudy sorry for my english but
I was wondering this:
if I save a configuration file with vncviewer when I double click from explore resources to launch the connection it gives me an error, if instead I open vncviewer and click on the load button I load the configuration then connect with the connect button.
It would be useful if you open the file directly to connect without other steps.
Perhaps there is some reason why this is not possible?
Thank you.

Is it broken in 1.2.3.0?

Howto correct associate a .vnc file with the viewer
Make sure the path of vncviewer.exe is correct !!!
open cmd as admin

Code: Select all

ftype VncViewer.Config="C:\Program Files (x86)\uvnc bvba\UltraVNC\vncviewer.exe" -config "%1"
assoc .vnc=VncViewer.Config
Reason
vncviewer syntax to open the viewer with a file
vncviewer -config filename
When you click on a file %1 is the file name -> -config %1

Thanks for the info I understand.

While doing another test with the new vncviewer I noticed a difference from the previous version.
If I open vncviewer and set some settings, I click on the "save" button, these remain stored even for the next time I open it again and so far everything is ok;
if instead I am connected with a client and need to open a new vncviewer the settings I had previously saved are lost and the options return to being the default ones.
in this condition when I close everything and
and reopen later vncviewer all the options remain the default ones.
It appears that the "options" file if used by the first vncviewer is not considered by the second vncviewer.

For each entry a corresponding option file is saved in appdata/local/vnc
/LOCALHOST-5900.vnc
/ID-123456789.vnc

When you select a server from the list he load the corresponding settings.

I am connected and open new...
How do you open the second viewer, running vncviewer.exe again ?

Re: 1.2.3.0 preview

Post by stefanorossetti »

yes I open a new vncviewer.

I try to explain better:
in version 1.2.2.4 when I had decided the best settings I clicked before connecting on the button "save connection setting to default" and every time I opened the program it proposed me my settings, I often have opened more vncviewer.exe simultaneously and when I open them he suggested my settings.
With the new version as mentioned in the previous post, if I open vncwiever, I set my settings and press the "save" button, everything works smoothly
(I connect with my settings, when I finish I close and when I replay the next time it repeats them the regular way)
If you open I open vncviewer several times only the first one proposes them when I open the second one I find the options of defaut; If I close all the vncwiever and reopen my options that I had saved I can't find them anymore and everything comes back to default.
Yesterday I tried to modify the permissions of the options.vnc file and after saving the settings I put the file in "read only" for all users and doing so when I open the viewer several times it always proposes my settings.
I hope I explained to you
Thank you.

update:
I had time to do other tests
the options.vnc file I can't keep it read-only because it creates other problems so I put the permissions back as they were originally. I discovered, however, that the problem can be reproduced: it happens only when with an open vncviewer another one opens and for some reason the connection fails (for example if I'm wrong to enter id: etc. ..) then the second connection fails, to at this point the values are reset and the default options return
I did the test on other computers and the problem always happens the same

Testing new secureVNC plugin right now. No problems until now.

BTW: Have seen a "secure=" option in ultravnc.ini. What's the representation on the GUI?

secure=1
Normal the vnc password is encrypted with a fix key, it's just as secure as the file.
Using secure=1, we use a pc depended key, some mixure of cpu/disk info
The password in the ini file can only be used on the same pc.

I didn't added a gui for it.
-People are used to copy ini files and with this option on, the passwd is only valid on one pc.
-After change current passwd isn't valid anymore
-changing disk could change the encryption key

If you know how to set it, you undertsand what you are doning.

I noticed this anomaly:
with the new one if winvnc is connected to the repeater the file when I open file transfer an error message appears. "Filetransfer interupted: reason connection with server broken "
if I use winvnc on a network without a repeater it works normally.
if I don't use the encryption plugin, there will be no error but everything will be closed

Rudi,

I noticed the x86 securevnc plugin in your provided ZIP is old. It's from 2016.

So my testing was no testing...

Early testing... I installed it on about 10 systems at work.
Initial: Connections are fast to show the first screen quickly. I don't seem to have as many immediate disconnects (wait several seconds then it reconnects).
At work we use a program to launch UltaVNC by command line so I don't usually launch VNCViewer.exe directly. I do launch the viewer directly at home.
1) When I launch VNCViewer, type in the remote PC name and click the "Connect" button, the viewer window/input screen redraws and shows the same information. I click the "Connect" button the 2nd time and it connects.
2) I connected to a work computer via VPN connection. I was trying to rename a file and pressed my F2 key. The filename highlighted, I moved the cursor toward the end of the filename and then the filename highlighted again. It appears some key is being sent that causes the filename to be re-highlighted about every second.
That's it so far.

Ok, tested new secureVNC plugin on server side against old plugin on viewer side. Works obviously.
But (maybe this was the same with old plugin):
We use reverse connection to repeater. After closing the session on viewer side, it takes very long to come the server back on the repeater.
Were there any timeouts changed? Or everything still the same?

Please excuse, but I tried to test the new screenshot function. In the new viewer I found an option to configure the path.
But how to shot the screen? During the remote session I didn't found any button or menu entry to take the screen shot. Or am I blind?

issue's
*viewer initial screen selection doesn't work --done
*pin works but takes 3 seconds, initial is on while previous it was off --done
*screenshot: icon only in fullscreen --done, replace single window icon, wasn't used
*Filetransfer and repeater -- was able to repeat it
Cause winvnc logging function crash, investigating

*Check timeouts, nothing changed, but reported to take longer

I noticed same anomaly. Server on 32 bits and viewer on 64 bits. Using encryption. Using Repeater.
Transfer begin but the transfer percentage is not correct. It puts file transfer complete when it still does not go even by 50%. Finally the error "Filetransfer interrupted: reason connection with server broken" appears and connection end.

Thanks.

it is still slow after disconnecting the viewer and returning to the repeater
