UltraVNC on Windows 10

Post by StanwellSchool »

Hi All,

When I remote into my test computer using UltraVNC and press the blank screen button it blanks the screen on the remote computer which is fine but at the same time it also locks the remote computer, so unless you have the correct credentials for the current user who's logged in you are unable to use that computer (I work in the education sector)

We have been using UltraVNC for many years now and it has always worked fine. When we used the software for Windows XP and Windows 7 you would get the green eye that would appear on the screen but you are still able to control and use the computer.

When we install the software on the computers we install the 'Server Only' option and in the Admin Properties we configure the Authentication and disable the tray icon. Currently I have setup it up so when I click the blank screen button it doesn't blank the screen but it disables the mouse and keyboard instead, but ideally I want it to blank the screen too.

Any suggestions would be grateful.

Many Thanks,

Gareth

XP till win7 using xpdm drivers had a layered window system, the desktop was composed of several layeres.
The trick we to place a top black window and exclude it from capturig -> local black, remote desktop.

This doesn't work on win8>=, the desktop is merged and you do not longer have access to the layers.
On windows 10 we tell the monitor to sleep using the powermanager, but this doesn't seems to work on all sytems.
