Win 10 "No password configured"

Post by mendotaView »

V 1.2.17 Windows 10 pro

I installed server and viewer (and repeater) and am trying to test (via allowed loopback). I know the viewer is finding the server because it asks for the password. But it always says "no password configured for vnc access".
When I set the password in admin properties it changes the hex password in ultravnc.ini. I have also tried setting the password using uvnc_settings.exe. (that also changes the .ini file). I also tried editing the .ini file in notepad. But it still always says password not configured.
I had to fix the permissions for the folder to do any editing of .ini, but I have access now.
What else can I try?
Thanks

If the desktop user is a domain user we sometimes have a permission issue.

1° copy winvnc to a temp or desktop... to a folder where you have full permission
2° run winvnc, because ultravnc.ini doesn't exist in this folder winvnc ask to enter a password
3° copy this ultravnc.ini to "program files"
You need to give admin permission to copy.

The reason behind this that we want to block non local admin to make changes to the ini file.

Thanks! (after uninstalling some garbage) it works. That's a good security protection.

Hi,
I have the exact same problem I tried everything mentioned and nothing worked. Using windows 10 and uvnc server 1.2.2.1 with uvnc viewer.

Can you tell me what garbage you uninstalled? I don't have any garbage installed...

I just switched to Windows 10 and I'm having this issue. I just knew it was a bad move lol. What else can I try besides what's already been suggested. Nothing worked, sadly.
