XP pro to XP home authentication problem

Post by vncnoob »

Hi all,

I tried uvnc (downloaded UltraVNC-100-RC203-Setup.exe but the Readme said RC 19, which is kinda strange...) today and couldn't get either LAN mode to work.

Here's my setup:

LAN mode:
========
***
Desktop connects to router.
Laptop connects to desktop directly and uses it as gateway.
IP, say, 192.168.1.101
(There's no more slots on the router for laptop)
***
Server:
Laptop, COMP_NAME1, allowed loopback.
Used MS Logon II, added user1 (and password was longer than 8 characters; tried to change to < 8, still no luck)

Viewer:
Desktop, COMP_NAME2
VNC Server: 192.168.1.101

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

On the login dialog, no matter I used with user1, COMP_NAME1\user1, or COMP_NAME1\\user1, it only gave me wrong password...

Check the EventViewer on the server side.
You should find entries stating that the connection attempt was either
- not authenticated (wrong username or password) or
- not authorized (the account was not granted the right to access).

"Not authorized" indicates that the MSLogon groups are not correctly configured.
