Slow or no keyboard entry

Using UltraVNC 1.0.9.6 with AES secure password, my users are seeing slow character entry when they type into the system, or no entries at all. I can duplicate this, three or fewer characters get no echo, but if I type 5 or more characters, I get them all at once. Is this a setting problem?
