Who wants to try my custom ChunkVNC viewer that keeps a list

Post by papafreebird »

Hello forum!

I've really been getting great use of ChunkVNC! Many thanks for putting it out there for us! I would like to contribute back. I've slapped together a simple custom ChunkVNC viewer that keeps a list of Clients Names and ID numbers similar to the way TeamViewer does. I've done this in Borland C++.

This is really useful for clients that you have left the service installed on for re-occurring remote work.

Hope some of you find it useful.

Setup - One time only. Settings are saved in myviewer.ini.
Place MyViewer.exe in the directory where the regular ChunkViewer.exe is. First time use it will give you a warning about missing files. Don't worry those will be created when you close the app. Next go to the settings tab and make your settings (quality, if you want autoscaling or not, LAN or outside repeater address, and password -optional).

A small update. Added ability to move clients up or down in list. Easier to keep clients grouped together that way.

side note how often do I have to post until I no longer have to be approved by a mod to post? I understand the reasons behind it. Just curious. [edit- for anyone curious it's 3 posts]

How much luck are you having with leaving ChunkVNC installed as a service for unattended access? I haven't been doing so because of stability issues I've heard reported and experienced myself. I haven't tried it in a while, but I was fairly often not able to connect when I wanted to.

I just use task scheduler to stop and restart uvnc_service a couple times a day. Set it up (the scheduled restart task) to run from the system account instead of the users account and the user will never even see the task run.

This seems to work great for me. I get quick access when needed.

Oh! Thank you!
Just been searching for an alternative to teamviewer.
I will try it, and report back any issues!
