Chunck Crashing?

Post by bigdessert »

I have been testing ChunckVNC at a client's that has 5 offices with about 25 systems at each. On average we have 1 support session a day with one of the offices. I have had to switch back to oneclick support because it seems that about 75% of the time ChunckVNC crashes on the clients pc. Crashes with a standards send/dont send error reporting. I haven't had the time to click more informaiton to find out what is crashing, but what appears to be happening is that the window with the id number crashes and the uvnc icons is still in the system tray.

I just don't have the time to be fiddling with this....Only thing I can think of out of the norm is this client has a program called netnanny on each of their pc's to do internet content filtering.

Let me know what you think.

OK, what OS is the client using? From your post I presume that the client doesn't get to the ID window?! And this has worked before? i.e. your repeater you have setup in your office is/has been working?

OS is winxp sp2 on all of them. In most cases they get the ID window and are able to read it to me. Sometimes right when I connect it crashes, other times its about 30 seconds into my support session. We don't have a repeater in our office it is hosted offsite so both us and the client remotely connect to the repeater. It is the linux repeater and has worked fine for over a year. After Chunck crashes I can take and load up my Advantig OneClick software and and perform the same task with their software and it works fine through the repeater.

This is going to be a lame excuse but with Version 4.0 looming just around the corner I would suggest waiting for this release. It would be silly for bug testing to be committed to the 3.1 code, when the new code is a complete re-write. Also it could be a problem with SP2?

Yeah this is no big deal and I don't mind waiting.

Which executable is crashing?

InstantSupport.exe is the GUI that sets up the UltraVNC server and shows the ID. This executable currently doesn't communicate over the internet it only sets up the server.

InstantSupportVNC.exe crashing is more likely as it is just the UltraVNC server executable renamed.

Could you clarify which exe is crashing?
Is it possible to run UltraVNC normally on the computers it doesn't work on or is it random?
Is there another VNC service running on these computers?

it is truly 100% random. As I stated earlier, if I have my client dismiss the error, and have them right away run onclick from advantig going through the same repeater everything works fine.

bigdessert,

It would be great if you could pinpoint which executable is crashing InstantSupport.exe or InstantSupportVNC.exe.

Thanks
