Sharing a Terminal Server Session with VNC?

Post by ajesq »

Hello,

I have a Windows 2003 terminal server. I would like to be able to have privileged users login to the terminal server and then have someone without the terminal server privileges use VNC to share the desktop with the privileged user.

Is UltraVNC capable of doing this? I tried tightvnc however as soon as the VNC client authenticated the server would kill the connection.

If UltraVNC could not do that is there any other solution out there that would allow sharing of a terminal session?

Please see [topic=15119][/topic]

Use RDP to connect to a TS session and then load AlterEGO inside this session.

Call your partner adn give him your ID and pass. Tell him to use
VNC button.
Eventually he will connect to your TS session.
If you minimize the session window, he will be seeing nothing, so
keep the TS window open at all times..

You can also collaborate there .

I have seen solutions like this before and it would work, however this solution is to be used in a sensitive production environment therefore using a intermediate would not be possible.

So, is there an incompatibility with VNC servers running in terminal sessions?

Well, I suppose that if you can run the winvnc server
as a user process and not as a service (-run)
you could achieve the same result.
You would have to open ports in your firewall
or use a VPN to get close to the TS.
The restriction is that you would have to either
run the vnc server with a custom setup (listening port)
and make this port reachable from the VNC client,
or you could use reverse connection with
an outgoing TCP connect towards the (KNOWN) IP
of the viewer.

In any way, a lot has to be done to negotiate the
ports, the ips etc etc, so solutions like this take care of all
this hassle.

The mediator server mentioned before, when you are
behind a NAT capable device, does not carry the traffic
in it, instead it helps establish a UDP nat traversal connection
between the two parties, so eventually, you are not passing
any network traffic to the mediator server. The server only
takes care of the complexities of the negotiation. It then
handles the traffic over to the peers.

But anyhow, you are free to try a lot of solutions, other
plugnplay, other custom. Your decision :)
