RC4 Plugins not compatible between XP and Win 2000

Post by simono »

We got everyithing to work. We found out that the dsm files must be in the program directory to be visible to UltraVNC. We found out that the dsm cannot find the key just generated because it is looking for a file rc4 and not new_rc4.

We even got a repeater up and running in mode 1 and our router configuered so that we can access 6 systems from outside of our office.

But what we could not find out is why using DSM plugins the XP systems cannot connect to the Win 2k systems and vice versa. XP to XP is ok and 2k to 2k is ok.

The net result - we had to disable DSM again on all systems and give up on encryption. Obviously, this is not what we wanted.

This is the latest version of everything downloaded from the main site just yesterday.

Sorry, there's a bug in the DSM plugin version (in v1.0.2)

This one solves the problem:

Thanks for the info.

That was the nice comment.

Why in the hell is the old DSM in the current distribution package for the latest version of UltraVNC?

That was the nasty comment.

I think you ought to post an FAQ on all my (trivial) findings - i.e. not in right directory, new_rc4.key is not used until it is renamed rc4.key, and of course the fact that thet wrong DLM version is in the current UltraVNC package.

That was the constructive comment.

By the way, we are using RC4 in our own email encryption product QualiCrypt. It has an interesting twist - if anyone would care to look at it.

That was the superfluous comment.

Well, the good version is not in the UltraVNC Setup because I forgot to put it in. Sorry for that.
It will be in the next version, of course.

BTW the link to the latest DSMplugin versions is signaled in the Release Notes (link on main page): http://sourceforge.net/project/shownote ... p_id=63887

The UltraVNC team does not develop the DSM Plugins

I've added a post on this subject in the FAQ so your painful experience can be useful to the UltraVNC community
