Win98 128 Bit encryption

Post by focusnet »

Hello

I have installed vnc on a win98 machine. But there is only a 40Bit key aviable.

Is there an OS Patch aviable to use 128Bit keys?

Thank you

Yes. There's a strong encryption pack for W98. See the MSRC4 DSMPlugin page for details.

If I remember correctly, out of the box Windows 98 does not support 128Bit keys. The plugin should detect what keys are available, and enable/disable the correct radio buttons.

Given the proper software environment, the plugin will support (and has been tested on) 95B, 98, 98SE, ME (ok, I didn't test ME. Never even loaded ME...), NT,2000,XP,and 2003.

Make sure your IE is the latest (or at least 5.5 I think) and that you installed the High Encryption pack.

Just for the record, this was caused by a corrupt key-store. I've added some new features to the crypto.exe utility on my website to allow you to delete and re-create the key-store.

To remove the key-store

crypto.exe -r

To create a clean new key-store

crypto.exe -c

Windows 2000 and up don't use a key-store anymore, so they don't have this problem.
