OOPs Forgot that it has been stable on this machine

With this version and setup. Its after about a month of not using and the attendant network detritus and installed junk .. I fire it back up and bam.. it begins to crash... What I want to know is what is it possibly in the junk installed over time that might be the caause. ?? What are known ...
