- use the Ultr@VNC Java client
- use an other client (xrealvncviewer for instance), but you will be limited to this client possibilities

Have you checked if the server port is used by an other process ?

Have you launched a sniffer (e.g. ethereal) on server to verify that packets come in ?

tuning the TCP window size increases performances on the laptop, approaching the desktop ones.

You can choose the listening port to use VNC native protocol on 80.
If some firewall blocks non HTTP protocol then you should use the HTTP with Java Viewer.

Is this possible ? :
When I reduce the network speed to 10MB some (which ?) hardware or functionality on the laptop is less used and release the process.

How to point to the real problem ?

Try to forward the VNC traffic from server to laptop through the other client. Use repeater or rinetd from www.boutell.com. See if it changes anything. on the 3 computers :
- Windows XP Pro SP2
- 1024 x 768, 16 bits colors
(same conclusions with 32 bits colors)

- Swicth 10/100
- Ethernet 100MB/s cards, full duplex enabled, on all computers.

Hello, I use UltraVNC client with 2 computers, a desktop (P4 2.8GHz, 1GB RAM) and a laptop (P3 1.1 GHz, 512 MB RAM).
