Keyboard not responsive, not working - mouse is

mouse works fine, but no response to keyboard events at the server PC and via the remote viewer to the server - mouse works fine.

a) how do I avoid this problem?
b) how do I recover from problem without rebooting the server PC?

viewer and server are both version 1.0.1
