Re: UVNC - LAN works, Internet doesn't
Success! I got a professional to come to the house. He advised me that 1) we needed to forward ports on the modem and also the router & 2) that I should have been forwarding from the modem to 10.0.0.1 (incoming port for the router) not 192.168.1.101 (IP address of the router). What I think he means ...

Re: I dont know how I did but I wanna do again =)
When you install the server, those "dots" automatically appear by default - there currently is no option to "Show Password in Plain Text". I'm yet to determine what the default is  - my guess is ""Password". You should overwrite them with your new password, then click "Apply".

Re: UVNC - LAN works, Internet doesn't
I have a wifi'd laptop on the same network. It's the one running PortQuery, and I've also loaded the viewer and plugin to a usb memory stick that I run from that laptop. Re Port 5500, I hadn't spotted it's for SC & PCHelpware, but I'll keep it because I've also loaded a SC exe to my website. When I ...

UVNC - LAN works, Internet doesn't
I'm going a little mad - please help! My setup is a SpeedTouch 536 v6, Linksys BEFSX41 Software 1.52.15, XPP and running RC6 as a service with MSRC4Plugin_NoReg.dsm. I've also forwarded ports 5500 + 5800 + 5900 (all TCP) to my pc with IP 192.168.1.100. I also has a DynDNS name that's tracked ...

Re: LogMeIn vs PCHelpware vs UltraVNC vs EchoVNC ?? Progress
Me again ...! I felt a little guilty asking the above question, so worked a little harder on UltraVNC. I've got my dynalias to work now, port forwarding too thru my firewall, and I also uploaded the vncviewer.exe to my website, so I can use that rather than a browser "http://myname.dynalias.net:5800 ...

LogMeIn vs PCHelpware vs UltraVNC vs EchoVNC ??
Hello Everyone, I want remote access to my XP PC - it's not a server. I am happy to leave it running for a week or so, and, of course, it will go to sleep, so I'll need to be able to wake it up - remotely. What I want, I think, is for it to run a server, preferable as a service, that I can access ...

Re: how to setu PcHelpWare Rel 1.0
May I politely suggest that if you cannot set it up after reading all the documentation, you may be better suited using Windows Remote Control.
Yes, PcHelpWare may seem a bit tricky, but have a go - that's the only way you will learn!

Just like "californiajeff", I too have installed FileZilla. It politely asks if you wish to use the registry or an xml file. This is great for installing onto a USB Memory Stick/USB Key(whatever these things are called). I installed the whole program onto a USB device, told it to use an xml file ...

DHCP? Of Course!
All you will need is a client that gives your PC a name (look up "NoIP.com" or "DynDNS.com"). Once you have given your PC a name like "abcd.homeip.net", put that address into your helpdesk.txt. Remember that if running through a router, you will need to forward a port to your machine of choice. :)

Remote Support vs SCIII
I apologise for the dumb question but I have to ask ... ...What's the main difference between your Remote Support and SCIII? I've managed to get SC up and running, so now I can assist my aunt from home. I have to now consider trialling SCIII with the repeater to get out through our company's ...

IP Address listing choice - self answered!
Dear SCers, Nothing like answering your own question! :P In the left-hand side of my SC, there are listed the words "Internet support". I had incorrectly understood that a list of IP addresses would appear and I would then click on the appropriate one. I have been vainly clicking on the blank space ...

Thanks guys,
This thread has been really helpful! But how's this for a dumb question - if I want to speed up the refresh rate on my viewer as I help a third party, do I install the separate video driver on the server end (them) or at the viewer end (me) ?

Will VNC coexist with CarbonCopy?
Cannot throw any light on Carbon Copy, but, as a suggestion, has the 98 machine ever had ZoneAlarm installed? If so, perhaps do a complete removal of that software.

You have not specified which operating system you are running, but for Win98, for example, the program will probably have installed itself in c:\program files\UltraVNC. Inside that directory there is an Uninstall Application called "unins000.exe". Run that first. You could probably manually delete ...

Can't connect to Win98 from XP, other way is ok
You may just have a conflict with ZoneAlarm. I run a small home network with 3 computers behind a Netgear router. All could ping and UltraVNC each other, as server and viewer, except one stubborn Win98 machine would not respond to inbound pings. I had installed then removed ZoneAlarm over 2 years ...
