It's been my experience the "Smart Defrag" does a faster and more complete job. It also has more user controls.
Regarding XP, there's no background capability.

I did shutdown and restart the viewer between changes. I made the changes at the server PC.

Re: Issue when running "Smart Defrag v2" under XP.
Hi Supercoe, I've got one for you to ponder. Still using v1.0.8.2, I tried your suggestion and checked Enable Alpha Blending. The "Smart Defrag" GUI still did not appear on the remote PC, and I lost the "Right Click" menu display on the remote PC. I un-checked "Enable Alpha Blending" and checked ...

Re: Issue when running "Smart Defrag v2" under XP.
Thanks for the Info Supercoe. From you responce I would do well to upgrade from 1.0.8.2 to 1.0.9.6; perhaps that would also correct the GUI display problem.

Issue when running "Smart Defrag v2" under XP.
I'm currently running version 1.0.8.2 server on an XP machine & the vierwer on a Vista machine. I had no major issues since Jan2010. I installed "Smart Defrag v2" on the XP machine, it functions without issue and as long as I'm at the XP PC I can interact with the user-interface. However, the UI ...

Re: UVNC Security & JAVA

Are you saying that the JAVA viewer is actually being uploaded from the WinVNC server to the remote browser? If that's the case then I can definately see why simply changing the port forwarding won't work; as you said the viewer would get it's port assignment from WinVNC.

Yeah. I know about changing the listening port on UVNC, I just thought that it would be easier to obsure the port to the external world withot touching UVNC by utilizing the port forwarding. Still don't understand why it doesn't work.

Re: UVNC Security & JAVA
B. Thanks again for the reply. This may explain an enomaly I was having when port forwarding on my router. Everytime I setup port forwarding (i.e. 5858 > 5800 & 5959 > 5900) the JAVA app would connect to the target machine, but fail to display the login. However, while the Chrome browser would also ...

Re: UVNC Security & JAVA
B, Thanks for the reply. I really don't understand the UVNC architecture, I would have thought that the two port would have been treated independently, allowing the JAVA access to continue unimpeded by the insertion of a DSM, as you noted JAVA does not support DSM's. X. P.S. The reason I posted ...

UVNC Security & JAVA
I noticed that if I install a security DSM plugin, for secure comm between the client and server, the JAVA browser access does not connect. I understand that the browser interface would not be secure, but I would have thought that since the JAVA interface utilizes a separate port (5800), it would ...

Re: MS does not want VNC to work
I've been using UVNC 1.0.5.1 for over an year; using the viewer on a Vista PC to access the server on an XP machine without any major issues.
I have also done the reverse, but not nearly as frequently.

Issue with Vista Taskbar
I updated from v1.0.5.1 to v1.0.8.2 on two PC's; one Vista and one XP. When I connected to the XP PC from the Vista PC I noticed that the Taskbar on the Vista PC started flashing periodically (about every 5-10 secs) from it's normal hidden state to un-hidden. The un-hidden state lasted less then a 1 ...

Re: Desktop Background?
Thanks again Mattice, I'll check out dyndns. I thought that even though the remote PC is assigned a given IP it's, as you say, isolated behind the remote router, most probably it is the IP of the remote router that's being passed to the uVNC server. I can find out that public IP through the site www ...

Re: Desktop Background?
Mattice, You were right, after I re-booted the home PC, the Viewer displayed the desktop wallpaper. I also think I know why a re-boot is necessary. I arrived home and checked the PC, it was properly in the screen-saver. However, when I logged-in I found that the Wallpaper on the PC itself was ...

Re: Desktop Background?
Thanks Mattice, I'm not at my home location now, but I'll give that a try when I get there. I appreciate the help. :-D Maybe, you could help me with another minor problem. Re: Desktop Background?
Rudi De Vos - I was not able to find any option under properties, or admin-properties called "disable background". Mattice - I tried unchecking "Remove Wallpaper for Viewers"; it did not make any difference - the blue background still displayed when I connected. Any other suggestions :). X.

Desktop Background?
I've installed UltraVNC on two XP machines, and have it functioning successfully within my network, remotely via my router, as well as remotely through my router's VPN tunnel. However, I've noticed that when I connect to a target machine the desktop background is not displayed - only the standard ...
