None of them! <G> It looks as if it was the ISP, redge. All other things were the same as they were before on my system. Stuff suddenly started working. Others have had trouble with VPNs etc on the same ISP. Having said that I went to the PC I want to remotely control, and the system failed!. I ...

Re: setting up
To all those who tried to help me. It works now. Everything in my system is as it was. I had Port redirection worked out right. I had ports open. It _is_ simple. I have firewalls running. I have the router in place. I have UVNC listening...and a Net-based check shows the port open. Others have ...

Re: Port Redirection etc
AH. There's the rub. (Actually I thought I had to do it on both machines) Having to set up port redirection etc on every machine I want to remote control is exactly what I _don't_ want! I want the other end to see the whole thing as simple as possible. Each of them may have a completely different ...

Ok. I will will read what you have said, and digest.
It may take a bit; there is a lot there that goes against what I have already seen.

Re: Port Redirection etc
redge: I did try the "connect to office computer", but I am stuck at a certain point. I reckon it's all blindingly simple, but something is giving me a blind spot. I can't tell if my ISP is blocking stuff, because I am not sure if I am even getting that far. Perhaps if I lay out my specific instance ...

I am beginning to suspect that all the people viewing my posts are looking for help, not trying to help.
It's ridiculous.
I cannot be bothered. There are ways that let you actually connect.

Port Redirection etc
I have just tried a couple of the Echo Server systems that are around. They simplify things but seem very slow. I also tried running a VPN programme, and while I could connect, I could not work out how to use UVNC over it. So I come back to direct control with UVNC, I guess. I have read and tried to ...

I went to the grc site and did the shieldsup thing for all sort os ports.
I had my router's FW OFF. I had XP FW OFF. I had Comodo FW OFF.
in every case I was told that all my ports were STEALTH. No ports available.
It all sounds so easy.
What now?
Thanks
Nick

Setting u0p UVNC
Is there a website that people can use to set up UVNC? I am thinking of something that will allow VNCViewer to try to connect, and which would also test connections to WinVNC server. This stuff is not a simple setup in many cases. I am trying to use this for basically what it has been said to be ...

Re: Firewall Ports ??
Do you have software firewall(s) running? You may have to tell that to let 5900 through.
I found that at some stage Win Firewall had restarted itself. I use another FW, so that tricked me for a while.

Install comes up as trojan
While installing, I had the following pop up via Comodo's BOClean. Location of startup: FILE C:\DOCUME~1\NICK~1.PSY\LOCALS~1\TEMP\IS-NVAB9.TMP\WINVNC.EXE This trojan horse program was found on your machine. It has been shut down, but the FILE from which it started still remains and can be started up ...
