Re: Application mode vs Service mode
Application mean that winvnc is started by the user. ( manual or by placing a copy in the startup folder) Service mean that the service manager start winvnc ( running as system) this start winvnc even before a user logon. Re: [BUG] also Vista64 + UVNCViewer/server 1.1.8
I may have got some hints about reproducible gray UVNC Viewer screen issue: Scenario: Windows Vista 64 Home Premium SP2, UAC active, normally run under limited account, having admin access too. Comodo Internet Security suite ( SPFW + HIPS only, UVNC binaries set as system applications ), Avast Free ...

VirtualBox VMs and remote "Escape key" via UltraVN
Hi, I am running at home Windows Vista 64 Home Premium, using UltraVNC v 1.0.5.2 64b, driver installed, version not handy now. I am little playing with VirtualBox 64 ver 2.1.0 and Linux distros to get into Linux, with usage of Right CTRL as VBox "Escape key". Recently, when I was remote controling ...

Re: Resamling resize
Thanks.
In fact, I know tabbed viewer exists, but I have never used it, neither thought it is able to do it :-)
I was searching for resizing, but results did not lead me toward tabbed viewer.

Resamling resize
Would be possible, without affecting compatibility, to implement
any resampling resize algorithm ? At least bilinear as one of simplest.
Possibly in both server and/or viewer side.
Current resize in near to 1.00 ratios is so horrible,
that I never use it, prefering screen scrolling or smaller window.

Re: PcHelpWare and 7-zip vulnerability
Well, one can download 7za.exe from 7zip site dowload page<, rename it to 7z.exe and put it there.
Or, copy there 7z.exe from 7-zip folder, should be ok.
Or, replace in PCHW related batch files 7z.exe by pathname of you genuine 7z.exe in 7-zip folder.

Re: pchelpware server freezes viewer, "Waiting for View
In fact, I am not familiar much with Vista and not at all with W2k3 server. I have just played very little with PCHW recently as SC replacement for remote support for my non-IT friends. UVNC servers have an option allow/not to allow remote input. If not allowed, then only looking and advising is ...

Re: pchelpware server freezes viewer, "Waiting for View
I suppose you need PCHW viewer.
PCHW is said to be compatible with UVNC only on helphesk.txt level, not in protocol level. It is different product.

PcHelpWare and 7-zip vulnerability
PCHW instalation contains 7z.exe. There is a vulnerability report about 7-zip prior to 4.57 version. Secunia PSI founded 3 location of old vulnerable 7z.exe in pchw folders. When I inspected original name, It was, as I had expected, 7za.exe, i.e. standalone 7z version. Not sure, if 7za is vulnerable ...

Re: IP Address Removal... Sorry this is a copy and paste...
Not about MRU cleaning, but dynamic IPs : One related solution is manage for clients ( or make them to do so themselves ) free dynamic DNS records. ( www.no-ip.org , or maybe preferably www.dyndns.org ) if their IP changes, their dns record is mapped to a new IP. - either manually by visiting ...

Re: Symantec client Firewall
I understand this. For very most cases this fw behavior makes sense, but here brings troubles. Not very familiar with symantec, using its security suite at common user level in big enterprice enviroment. I know more FW has this problem, at least Kerio/Sunbelt 4.x and Kerio 2.x, maybe comodo 2.4 too ...

Re: Symantec client Firewall
It remembers the rule, but for full pathname, not for all files with the same filehash.
So, there is no sense for making permanent rule for one time only program.
Use permit once option, with no rule creation.

Hmm - interesting. 5900 is default port SERVER is listening to VIEWER connection request in NORMAL mode. 5500 is default port VIEWER is listening to SC or full SERVER request in REVERSE mode. sorry for confusion, but I had all the time in mind it is port 5500 where your viewer is listening, as it is ...

Re: SC newbee
But afaik SC is not listening, only manually initiated outgoing connection is allowed.
If you install 7zip, you can easily open SC executable and see, what connection parameters are written in embedded helpdesk.txt file.
by menu I mean 1o more text line yoy are about to doubleclick to connect.

Re: SC newbee
to clarify:
Does it mean 5500 is forwarded to viewer / vista,
nad 5800,5900 to XP / winvnc server ?
and SC / XP does not connect to viewer / vista even by local connection ?
do you have both items in SC menu for remote and for local conection to Viewer ?

but server setting are not relevant for us now. We trying to connect to http server/ or UVNC Viewer at port 5500, not to UVNV Server at default, or manult set port 5900. if you are unable to connect to both independent apps ( obviously onle one can listen on that port ), the problem would not ...

Re: SC newbee
your friend needs to use http://address:5500
othervise browser obviously use default http port 80
We do not need to test http, but port 5500, whatever there is listening....
And check SW Firewall on viewer PC, if any,
to be either off or allowing incoming TCP connection for webserver
