Re: No password has been set & this machine....
I use a script to silently install Mirror driver and then silently install UVNC Service. To avoid prompt for service password, I do a registry import before installing the UVNC service, so the service password has a predefined default value. The value is, as you surely know by heart, HKLM\SOFTWARE ...

Re: Why should I use any other but ULTRA performance?
Ok,
I like Tight, too, as it does give me a pretty predictable frame rate, especially over my VPN + ADSL which varies a lot in actual capacity.
However at work, the auto setting (i.e. ZRLE) gives me a noticably snappier response, so I just leave it at default.

Re: Why should I use any other but ULTRA performance?
I just wondered why one should choose any other setting but ULTRA? As far as I understood it's by far the fastet and has no disadvantages. So why are the other settings (Zlib, ZRLE, etc.) included at all? It depends whether the bottleneck is the Server CPU or the connection speed. ULTRA uses very ...

Re: Need EXE to run at start and EXE to run at end
I am not the developer, but this is definitely possible. It could be incorporated into the original source, or you could have an INETD-like TCP wrapper run your EXEs upon TCP connection / disconnection. You would have to decide what to do with multiple simultaneous connections, though. I think it ...

Re: Black Screen when uses UVNC after a microsoft terminal s
Sorry for the late reply; my main RemoteDesktop experience comes from Windows 2003 Server; I have recently tested the XP variant, which behaves a little differently. With 2003, if you connect with RDP client: MSTSC /CONSOLE, session 0 will always be disconnected and all sessions on server must be ...

Re: Black Screen when uses UVNC after a microsoft terminal s
Services (like VNC) can interact only with session 0. Normally console is attached to session 0, but during or after an MSTSC session, session 0 might not be attached to session 0 and is therefore not available to VNC. See Black screen for Tivoli Remote Control for a script to remedy this situation ...

It also seems (from the MSDN thread) that the stub launcher API call will fail if no-one is logged on, so it will be impossible to serve the initial logon screen.

Re: Ultra VNC 1.0.2 disconnects suddenly and logs off
Check the eventvwr on the server - one likely possibility is that the server automatically reboots following an error (unrelated to UVNC). That would produce the scenario you describe. The eventvwr will then leave traces of the reboot.

Re: UltraVNC Win32 Server Performance Problem
You cannot be using the mirror driver / video hook driver on the server.
It is the UltraVnc feature that makes all the difference wrt. server CPU consumption.
It is downloaded and installed separately

Re: Run vnc without starting Windows..
I use UltraVNC server and viewer from BartPE bootable CD. There is a standard plugin for UltraVNC. Google for BartPE. It's free (need Windows license for the PC you boot the CD from).

Re: winvnc -noconsole
Sorry, but it is not clear what you want to accomplish. VNC is typically used to access the console, and it works as long as the console is also session 0. What would be the desired benefit of -noconsole? What would you expect to see? As VNC works right now, what you get is the screen from session 0 ...

I beg to differ! DO NOT connect to the local console with RDP/TS! That is, DO NOT use mstsc /CONSOLE /V:server ! VNC is not compatible with servers who "have suffered" RDP/TS connect to local console. I have no problems installing Ultravnc as service (and mirror driver) from remote desktop/TS - if I ...

NEVER use MSTSC /CONSOLE /V:server , that is, never connect RDP to console. You thereby disconnect session 0 from console. Not only you disrupt programs like VNC og PCAnywhere; you also disrupt some backup programs running as service (like our backup program). Note that it is perfectly safe to use ...
